QA formula -- cnot - Down in the Dumps

Posted: Aug 17, 2010

I know each company has different formulas etc.   However, I was just wondering-is there a general rule on the ratio  of mistypes/lines?

Example:    Three errors on 3-page report (one error per page)-- would this be equivalent to 3 errros on 1 page of a 1-page report?

Where I work errors are not counted - jt

that way. Each error has a different point value. A minor error can equal 0.25 and a major error can equal 1 point. The error percentage is not determined by the number of errors, it is the seriousness of the error and, when added up, the percentage of the lines counted is your QA/error score.

A standard system in use starts with 100 points - Poppy

per document and assigns 3 points to each critical error (one that could hurt a patient). That's because many companies consider 98% or above acceptable, thus one critical error makes a review unacceptable. Other errors, typically sloppiness that undermine the credibility of a report, are 2 points each. Errors flagged for the purpose of education are 0. This system has no 1s.

It's a decent system but can be unfair when an MT's reports are longer and/or more difficult than average, something you might keep in mind. Also, some people say sloppy errors are being flagged as critical. IMO, it's important for your own sake not to accept that, even if it does make a supervisor unhappy.

there isn't much standardization in my experience - sm

The first job I had expected 100% accuracy and if you made a small noncritical error once every 3 months, the OM would still call you to berate and insult. The second job I had didn't really do QA or scoring, they just had a pool of people who would check reports that you sent in if you had words you couldn't hear.

I'm on my third company, and while they have QA and point out critical errors versus minor ones, again they do not do scoring. And I haven't figured out ANY standard formula for MT testing when looking for a job.

KK, consider myself an competent user of Excel but have come upon a bit of a snafu with the calculation of time on my worksheet. I worked (total hrs for the day) 8.01, 7.51, 8.03, 8.00, 7.58 for a total of 39.53 hours. the standard formula, =sum(...), on my wksh adds it up to 39.13.  What would the formula be to come up with the 39.53 hours?  The formula in my head is multiple nested functions...there just has to be a simpler way.  In my head, I'm adding up the m ...
