How many of you work on a laptop - anonymouse

Posted: Aug 11, 2011

I was curious how it is to work on a laptop? I have always worked on a desktop. If you work on a laptop do you get a standard keyboard and type on it or the keypad on the laptop? What other adjustments if any do you make? What is your preference, desktop or laptop computer to work on?

...and I HAVE to use a full-sized ergonomic keyboard with it. I just can't stand those flat little chicklet keys on the laptop. I also have to use a mouse and, if possible, I'll plug in a full-sized monitor so I can use 2 screens like I have with my desktop machine. (The 2 screens boosts production like crazy.)

I keep a memory stick handy so I can swap my autocorrect updates over to it, along with any work I have to transfer onto it from the desktop, because, again, I use it for emergencies only.

I personally prefer to use my desktop, just because it's all set up just for my body/bad vision/busted back etc, and it's all neat and tidy.

:-)

I use a desktop - but also a laptop...

I use a desktop primarily, but sometimes use a laptop with my favorite keyboard connected to it.

I rotate to be honest. When I am at home, it is my desktop, and when I am on the road, it is my laptop. both are secure and I have my own portable Internet with me . . and my clients know I work remotely and when I am on the road and we have not have a problem. Plug here: I have 2 great MTSOs I work for, which makes that SO nice.

I mostly use a desk top at home - but when I am on "vacation"

will use my netbook, and have even forced myself to get used to typing on the little keyboard, but have not yet figured out a way to escape the footpedal.

I think it sucks that we can't take real vacations, - and leave the work behind for a while.

I used to work on a destop but now have a laptop. I really like it. It took a bit of time to acclimate but once I did I love it more than the desktop. Plus, as long as I have my FP I can work anywhere (is that good or bad? LOL).

I work it on on my laptop - but

Have it on a regular desk with a full size keyboard, regular mouse, and my foot pedal. It's fine here on the desk, but sometimes when I am traveling to get it in the right position I have to put it up on phone books and pull out the drawer, put a phone book in it and rest my keyboard on tat. WHY can't they make "work stations" at hotels that work? All they would have to do is make that drawer in the desk wider to fit a keyboard and then put the front of the drawer on hinges so it flopped open.

I miss my desktop, but in the circumstances this is fine. And it is convenient, I guess.

I work on a laptop. I use the laptop keyboard. It is very comfortable to type on. The only adjustment I made is to use a mouse instead of the built-in things because I personally prefer it. I prefer working on a laptop because I don't have enough space for a desktop. The screen is in just the right place. When I need my laptop fixed, I can just put it in a backpack and go.

New HP Laptop

Okay, I should have checked all this out before I bought a new computer, I know.  But I didn't and now I am paying for it. My company's software is not compatible with Windows 7 and that's what my new computer installed on it.  I have learned that I can take it to a local repair store and have the XP installed on it and the Word 2003, but then I found out from my employer's IT guy that a 64-bit computer is also not compatible.  Geesh!  Anything else I sho ...

Hi, I am looking for recommendations on a  laptop.  It will be a gift (not from my husband) but from a relative.  I would like one with word processing but I am happy to download open office.  I will mainly use the laptop for internet and I would like to get a wireless printer at some time.  I know there is a Google type of laptop where nothing is actually stored.  Some folks say it is better to get a regular laptop.  I wouldn't be opposed to getting a re ...
