Amphion or Transcend - MT

Posted: Aug 20, 2011

I would appreciate any feedback on these companies.  I have recently applied and tested with both.  Any info on VR and TR cpl, benefit costs (for family), how many lines you are able to produce per hour, what the platforms are like, schedule flexibility, etc.  I'm returning to transcrirption after coding for a few months outside of the home, but need to return to home as it works best for my 2-year-old daughter.  I'll be taking a huge pay cut, so any info on realistic production expectations/what you are averaging dollar-wise per hour would be greatly appreciated.  Also, any other companies to suggest for someone with 3-1/2 years experience?  I believe the Transcend pay scale is a bit higher than Amphion, but am wondering if the Amphion platform is easier to work with.  Thanks everyone :)

I also applied and tested for both companies, but haven't heard back yet, so am unable to provide you with the specific info you seek. I can say, however, that VR and TR cpl as well as benefit costs are pretty much similar across the board for most MTSOs. Some are more flexible than others with schedules, especially if your work as an IC rather than as an employee. Also, however, I am wondering why you would give up coding for transcription, especially in this climate of low pay for VR editing. Some MTSOs do have coding opportunities which allow you to work from home. I wonder if you checked out that first? If not, please, please do. I'm toying with the idea of going back to school to update my coding skills (I did coding years and years ago and loved it), getting my credentials, then coding from home to replace my MT job. I've been in this business for well over 25 years and used to love it. At one time, I could work in something that I really loved doing and still make enough money to support myself. Benefits were appropriate and affordable. Not so anymore. Give it some thought. Good luck to you in the future.

thanks! - MT

Thanks for your response! I am a little confused as to what the right thing to do is. I worked very hard to get my CPC certification and will keep it current, but am having an extremely hard time with my daughter in full-time daycare. I am also considering having a second baby, and would much rather be working from home while pregnant. I too began coding with the hopes of coding remotely from home, but almost all companies require 3 years of experience. I have applied for many, many remote coding positions and have heard nothing. So, I guess being at home with my daughter is worth a lot more to me than the coding pay/career. I can pursue it someday, I hope.

I'm wondering if Amphion may be the better choice to me, as they also have a coding department. They require 3 years for their coders, but perhaps if I got in with them as a transcriptionist they'd let me take their coding test a year or so from now.

Can anyone out there give me some realistic numbers as far as what they average hourly with Amphion? I know they don't pay for spaces, but am wondering if their platform is better which means better production? I was told most MTs average 14 to 22 an hour. Thanks so much!

Regarding the ease of use of the platform....the best answer I can give you is that in less than 8 hours of working yesterday, I did over 2400 VR lines. I work in Escription, so I cannot attest to any of the other platforms, however, I know that there do appear to be more Escription accounts than anything else and those are the ones they are hiring for right now, as best I can tell. I do know that the emphasis is on people who can work weekends right now, as we seem to have limited weekend coverage.
more good info, thanks! - MT

That's good to know. I don't mind VR, as long as the platform is decent. What word expander program are you using, if any? I worked on the Clarity Cornerstone platform for quite some time, and didn't hate it but didn't average what I wanted to line-wise. I had kind of lost my motivation though, as I was studying to be a coder and was exhausted most of the time. I would probably work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule. Right now, I'm trying to come up with what times would work best so they can tell me what accounts are out there for me. Hopefully it would be an Escription account, as I've seen some pretty positive things on here about it. Thanks again for taking the time to respond-greatly appreciated!

Believe it or not, just autocorrect. I had to change computers and can't justify upgrading instant text, and the version I had will not work on Windows 7 64 bit, so I don't have an expander to speak of right now.

testing for Amphion - GeeWhiz

I just completed testing yesterday for Amphion. Very extensive.

Does anyone know how long it takes for someone to get back to you? Are they looking for a 100% error free test? I know I did well on the objective part and really good on the transcription, but I did have to leave a blank or two. Think this will ding me out?

I got a response pretty quickly (within 3 days) of taking the test letting me know I'd passed. The next step is setting up a time to talk to the recruiter, which is about 20 to 30 minutes. It took me a while to find a time that worked for both of us. I'm at the next step, which is giving your available hours, at which point they find a suitable account and make the actual offer, I believe. I got a very good vibe from the recruiter.

As far as the test, I don't know if they're looking for 100% error free. I didn't have any blanks on mine, but I'm sure 1 or 2 aren't a big deal. I recently took a test for Transcend and had to leave 2 blanks in a report and still passed.

I'm sure you did great! Good luck to you!

For me, it is a lot more about work environment, too, and the climate has been much better at Amphion. I have worked for both. Amphion tiers pay rate based on quality score, experience, and shift, so it is hard to give a hard and fast answer to that. However, I work on Escription, and that platform for me is much better than Transcend's BeyondTXT, in my opinion and what my limited experience with it was.

Food for thought, though, is that Amphion does have a coding division, so it might be possible to start in transcription and move to coding, though I admittedly know little about their coding department.

good info - MT

Thank you so much for this information! I too value work environment and for some reason I have a better feeling about Amphion, even though the pay scale is lower than what I was offered with Transcend. I also think deep down I want to return to coding because I worked so hard to get my certification, so at least with Amphion there may be some hope for that in the future. Can you give me an idea of what you average per hour with them?

I'm hoping to average at least 15 hourly, but with the .04 SR rate not sure I can make this happen. I've seen some negative things on here about the Triton platform, so that worries me a bit. Amphion also requires you to work set hours while Transcend is fine with flex windows. The account I would be on is brand new with Transcend, so that worries me.

What to do, what to do! Any more Transcender's or Amphioner's out there that can give me some advice? Also, does anyone know if the Humana plan covers maternity office visits? Not pregnant yet, but hoping to be soon. Thx!

I currently work for Amphion and love every aspect. Triton is a great platform and easy to use. I can't say enough good about the company and people here, but only you can decide what is best for you. They are not always hiring, so if you want the opportunity, you may want to consider now before you miss the ship.

Q For Amphion MTs
Sep 29, 2010

Anyone ever get fired from Amphion for not meeting line requirements? I work for them FT or more as needed and have yet to make the 12,000 line requirement. I've been with them for 6 months now and have not heard a peep about it. My QA is meeting requirements and my attendance is excellent, but I have yet to make the line count.
