ADHI's Acute Care Module - cyn

I saw that ADHI offers an acute care module for those of us looking to get into acute care transcription. I have been doing OBGYN.

Does anyone know anything about this? Is it worth it?

I took an online course from Oak Horizons that covers acute care recommended by AHDI. It is a good one but be sure you score 98% or above to be recommended for a job. It really helped me even though I have not yet gotten a job in acute care. AHDI also has mini module tapes for med/surg for practice typing acute care that run $30 each and there are three of them.

I'm debating on whether or not to stay in this field. If I do stay, I will probably do this.

AHDI played a very big role in making MT into the - messed-up field you were thinking of leaving.

They are pro-offshoring, pro-India, and currently active in trying to send American transcription to China. They are also lobbying hard in D.C. to make their fake "credential" mandatory.

This organization is about as anti-MT and dishonest a group as there has ever been in this country. They're all about greed, and their own gain. They're about lining their own pockets, and encouraging MTSOs to do the same, at the expense of the very workers who make these companies successful.

When you look at the sad state of affairs, not only in our industry, but in the plights of workers across the USA, I think it's not only foolish to give con-artists like AHDI even one dime of our money, it's also MORALLY WRONG.

Back in the early 90's I figured this to be true because of what MTs were paid. They were not concerning themselves with wages or insurance benefits for MTs. They never seemed to support the MT in any way except to join their organization which cost a fortune and buy their books and courses etc. When I took the Oak Horizons Acute Care course online I was never told I had to achieve 98% accuracy to qualify for a job recommendation. Although I did learn a lot from the course, I feel in some way I was not told all the facts regarding this the job recommendation. So I do agree very much with what you say here. Thanks for backing up my gut feelings about the AHDI. They are all for the MTSOs and greed and not for the MTs. They dictate our pay too.

I agree with you totally. And don't forget that AHDI climbed into bed with MQ. (Have you ever read the documents from the transcriptionists' lawsuit of several years ago?) I watched AHDI unfold from the beginning, from its "sorority sister" start, and find their behavior to be reprehensible on many, many levels. I have made big bucks in the MT world. I did not need the AAMT/AHDI or whatever type of alphabet soup they are peddling. Nuff said.

There are many better choices than to buddy up with AHDI.

That's not even a very good start, but you have to start somewhere. You need great amounts of acute care exposure before you'll be ready to do it for real. The problem with "quick-fix" products like this is, you'll learn lots of terminology and maybe some formatting, but you will have hundreds of mistakes that you won't notice yourself making. Unfortunately, when you test, those mistakes will be noticed.

As a relative newbie MT, I'm not certain what "acute care" means. Does it mean basically all reports that are from doctors in the hospital setting? That is, would any hospital operative note, hospital progress note, and all discharge summaries be considered "acute care"? I know a clinic note is basically a note by an outpatient doctor, right? And it's basically about more minor medical problems albeit could be chronic rather than "acute." ...

I would love to know how you get acute care experience when no one will give you the opportunity without it. I am good at what I do and work hard. Does anyone know why Accentus Acute Care seems to always have the same job ad hiring for acute care MTs that pays a sign-on bonus? I've been in transcription since 1998, doing clinic work for about 13 of those, then moving to acute care consisting of H&P, consults, and discharge summaries....but not op notes. I see so many jobs for acute care work, but they only want people who've done all four. My question is, how do you go about learning to do op notes in order to obtain one of those jobs?
