Coding in India - sickoglobaltrade

Uh. . . . . . http://www.outsource2india.com/services/outsource_medical_coding.asp ..... and http://medicalcodingoutsourcing.com . . . . . it's just a matter of time . . . been there done that.

Anyone can advertise anything - sm

Here we go with the hysteria again. Same examples as before.

If you can't see what is wrong with it, telling you won't do any more good than it did last time. You just want to play "Uproar."

Uproar - sickoglobaltrade

I think the lady doth protest too much!

Oh my dear SM - Call it what your want, I see your response to a real threat to the industry is to just blame it on an uproar from someone. These are valid fears, worthy of discussion, and dialogue. Go ahead and stick your head in the sand, and if your not a coder, or planning to be one, well, then . . .

How can coders or potential coders be to blind - to what is already happening? Mystifying.

nm

look at it this way - not your responsibility

[ In Reply To ..]
It's not your responsibility to warn coders or would-be coders about the possible future of coding. If they don't want to hear it, what's it to you?
But to hawk it like it's a cure-all panacea isn't - your business either, is it?
[ In Reply To ..]
No one here does that - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The coders here seem to be objective and definitely don't think it is a cure-all panacea. They seem clear enough about the downside and don't recommend it for everyone.

I think you would find anything less than outright condemnation to be unacceptable, though.
yes it is my business - coder to be
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm learning coding. You are not a coder and you are not learning coding. You don't have a dog in this fight. I can't understand why it's so important to you to warn everyone off.
probably jealous because she either cant make the grade - or afford it
[ In Reply To ..]
.
How could anyone be jealous of such a boring - job, and such hateful people?
[ In Reply To ..]
Even if the profession were bulletproof, it would still be pretty miserable.
The work is easy and the inmates remind us - of ourselves, thanks.

How pathetic to have to resort to name-calling.

Please take offshoring issues to the - Offshore Board

Please take offshoring and political concerns to those boards.

LOL - you have to fight

[ In Reply To ..]
through a wall of cobwebs to get to the offshore board. India is all over MM, Nuance, Main boards. Why not here? Seems like a legitimate concern.

comment from an MT now coder - anonMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I took the plunge after studying and reading all of the issues. There are currently coders in India doing US work. After what happened I was leery also. Then my friend in HIM at a local hospital told me that their CEO had decided to save money by sending the coding to India. After 3 months, the hospital was deluged with denials and unpaid claims due to improper coding. They hired back as many of their coders as they could (some had moved on and would not go back) and gave them bonuses AND a raise. I was so miserable as an MT that I decided that I had to try SOMETHING else, and I took the course and got certified. I have never been happier and am so glad I took the chance. We are treated with respect and get bonuses and all holidays off. (this is how they SHOULD be treating MTs too, and I DO miss MT). So the issue is find something to transition to, I don't think MT will ever come back, as many hospitals are using point and click templates and front-end editing. But to come here and denigrate those of us who have had the foresight and get further education and transition to another field sounds like sour grapes, and like you want this to happen to us. As repeated many times by other coders on this board, there are a multitude of positions associated with coding, unlike MT, so we are not in a "box" and yes especially with outpatient coding there are some practices choosing offshore, but I also know that as I become more experienced and continue towards my RHIA that there are many other opportunities available.
You are correct - sickoglobaltrade
[ In Reply To ..]
Thanks for reminding me about the positives. I certainly did not want to demean or belittle anyone's decision to become a coder, nor did I scroll back through months/years of posts in the archive to see that this topic was discussed in the past. I too was an MT that became a coder, and I have worried about the coding being off-shored because I see it happening, albeit not in large quantities. You are correct - coding has a myriad of other possibilities within the healthcare continuum. Get that RHIT and your CCS and you are probably set for a long time. Thanks for reminding me!

(End of post, on a happy note)
The same thing is happening - MTC

with Nuance transcription that they send to India. It keeps coming back due to the ridiculous errors and obvious language barrier..yet N doesn't care and they keep trying to send it back again and again. What company who really cared about keeping their business would keep doing the thing that is causing them problems and complaints from customers..the greediest of them all. The transcription side of N will be losing more and more contracts if they don't get their act together and then maybe just maybe hospitals, etc. will realize the American MTs value. You get what you pay for. Yes, transcription is changing and the demand is lessening due to EMR, but they will always need humans as anyone who has ever seen VR work knows.
Please, the discussion is about CODING, not - the evils of Nuance
[ In Reply To ..]
Please, stop redirecting the discussion on this board to Nuance, SR, or transcription. That has nothing whatsoever to do with what we were discussing.
Except that Nuance will likely be in the coding - business someday, too.

Why? Coding is becoming an offshore issue too. - nmsg

Coding Jobs Going To India?
Dec 21, 2011

This is a question for coders.  I am thinking about taking the coding course through Andrews school.  I am just asking about the outlook for medical coding in the future.  Have any coders out there lost their jobs due to it going to India or overseas or to any computerized program like Epic or Amazing Charts.  I am just asking before I take the course through Andrews.  I think there is a future in coding. Thank you for any replies. ...

And see how well India does all the transcription -- they can't do it -- we do the hard work and they get the cream.  We are sitting her dying with their bad machines and bad dictators. Hired For Coding/billing/transcription, But Told No Coding
Aug 13, 2013

Accepted a job, gave 2 weeks notice, and yesterday was my first day.  I was to be helping out transcription (1000 jobs behind), and then sitting with billing and training with coding as their coder will be out on maternity leave in December.  The office is adding another surgeon, and they are rapidly expanding.  So I gave a proper 2 weeks' notice to my former employer (2 hours on the road there and back, low salary - now less than half distance and $3 more an hour) and starte ...

Coding School - Fate Of Coding Due To EMR
Apr 10, 2012

Wondering if there are any coders out there who can give me an idea of the fate of coding due to the EMR. Are there still coding jobs out there? Would it be wise to attend school for coding at this point or do you think it will be lost to the EMR eventually? I live in a rural area and there are advertisements for registered/accredited coders at medical facilities, but I'm afraid of spending all that time and money on schooling only to not be able to find a job. Any information/insight w ...

Do I Need To Take An Actual Coding Course To Learn Coding?
Feb 26, 2014

My sister is taking an online coding course and complains that there is no real "teaching," that she's basically just doing the work in the work book and entering answers online, then taking an online chapter test.  This makes me wonder about the necessity of signing up for an actual course.  I would like to learn how to code, but to me, without any actual instruction, what's the purpose of signing up for one of these online courses? ...

ESL And India
Dec 02, 2009

Not trying to be ignorant of things, but I read A LOT of reference to ESL dictators and work going to India.  What are ESL dictators exactly?  I am asking because I've worked for this company only for a short time, but I don't have any dictators that are ESL (I am assuming English second language speakers correct)? other than what is normal for my region AND I also have not lost any work to India.  I am concerned though as it seems to be a trend.  I rarely run ...

Pay For MTs In India
Sep 22, 2011

Was just curious really about how much MTs in India make.  No wonder so much work is going over there.  They can make around 5000 rupees a month, which is about $125 in U.S. dollar a month, plus line count bonuses.  It makes me so angry that MQ is playing a part of the downfall of our economy by offshoring, instead of trying to help our country out by keeping work here.  Wonder how much the unemployment rate would drop if every MTSO in this country stopped offshorin ...

9 P.m. And It All Goes To India
Feb 19, 2013

My employer won't admit it but all of this month the work on my account will go from 50-75 reports well within TAT to suddenly nothing and this happens between 9-9:15 p.m.  Typically that volume of report would last me and the others on the account until 11 p.m. or midnight.  Ironically I note that 9 p.m. in the US is equal to 9 a.m. in India.  Why don't they just admit they're giving work to India and stealing it from us, leaving those of us scheduled to work until ...

MME From India
May 22, 2013

For the last two nights I have been editing almost all reports from MTs in India.  The reports go through 2 MMEs in India and then come to me.  It is amazing since they are supposed to be so "good" at what they do, that just about all of the reports come through with errors in them that were not picked up by MMEs in India. Just a thought.  ...

MTE From India
Jun 18, 2013

I wonder how much editing the MTEs from India are actually doing.  In the report was typed Cranberry Whistle as a medication when it was actually cranberry, Vistaril 25 p.o. q.4-6 h. p.r.n. in a medication list.  Since the MTs from India are supposed to be much smarter than US MTs and this report went through 2 levels of editing in India, wonder how much they actually look at the report or do Google searches.  Never heard of Cranberry Whistle as a medicatin.  Brother.  G ...

And What's To Say It CANNOT All Be Sent To India?
Mar 14, 2015

If the economy ever gets better, most of us will leave for jobs that pay better. Once they don't have enough of us, they'll simply send the work to India rather than pay us more. They will continue to insist on paying low wages. I think they saw an opening when the economy tanked with too many people, including us, looking for a job -- ANY job and took advantage of the economy by transforming this job into a minimum-wage job. Then they could tell the hospitals how cheap they could ...

India And The Phillipines.
Dec 02, 2009

I forgot to ask this question in my last post: Assuming that most of us are getting 8-10 cpl, what are the Indian and Phillipino MTs getting?  Half?  Less than half?  Also, assuming that the need for MTs will continue somewhat - how long do you all think it will be before all the remaining MTSOs will outsource to India and the Phillipines - for nothing else, but to reduce their MT overhead?? Now I'm really depressed, and I have to start work. Thanks everyone.   ...

Offshoring To India
May 27, 2010

What is the attraction about India, that so much of the transcription is being sent there? It seems to me that someone for whom English is a second language would not do very well in transcribing reports from the U.S. I would expect that a lot of those reports would have be heavily eited or completely re-done. So why offshore it in the first place? Am I missing some information here? It can't be all about salary, because from the postings here, it doesn't seem like transcriptionists i ...

India Should Not Be Blamed
Jun 13, 2010

As compared to the total medical transcription work of US, the portion of MT work outsourced for India is very less it seems.  Some are blaming offshoring of MT work to India as a cause of cheaper pay rates for US MTs.  But the fact is different.  Now a days MT companies in US are switching to voice recognition method of their MT work which requires only editors and proofers and not MTs.  Hence MTs are eliminated from the scenario.  The voice recognition software is doin ...

Outsourcing To India
Jun 15, 2010

MQ Sending More To India
Nov 20, 2010

My husband is in the stock market and has been checking up and reading things about MedQuist.   MedQuist is now in a transition of sending more to India than ever before.  According to the CEO and COO, they are looking to increase their volume of 15% of MQ total work to 45% in the next 6 months.  The purchase of Spheris was a smokescreen.  The contract with Spheris was that they could come in and set up shop with their own people and move the MQ folks out.  Which is ...

If All The MT Work Is In India, Then How Do I
Sep 09, 2011

I have been waiting for hours, no work today, nothing.  This is per usual anymore.  My last several accounts went overseas, it would not have hurt the MTSO I work for to have kept me on any of the accounts anyway and they won't give me a secondary so that when the work does come in they can keep a tight TAT.   I've been looking for other opportunities, but just can't seem to find anything.  I don't have a car so have no transportation to even try find ...
