is take a job with Spheris! As per training we are not allowed to say anything bad about the company, so I am just saying I was so stupid, stupid, stupid to take the job!

I feel for you. I worked for them for 3 weeks and quit. They put on an account where I had to look through a list of more than 3000 doctors in two different states to copy addresses into reports. Talk about time consuming. I was spending more time looking this crap up than I was typing. I ended up making about $3.00 an hour. To date I have never heard anyone say anything good about this company. All the MTs I know that worked for them quit in disgust, much like what is happening with the infamous MQ (Medquist), who in my opinion are the ones that are leading the pack in sending this industry right into the gutter. There is something pathetically wrong when the longer you work for a company the less money you make.

Goodness, you had to do all that just to type a report? Morons must run that company. nm - Dumbfounded

Stress and anxiety
Gradual, and then sharp, decline in wages to the point of poverty wages
Could not pay rent

Yes, they make you look up and enter things that sane people would have the intake clerks enter into the patient's record (since its right in front of their face at the time). And they'll send your account to India on a whim without warning, leaving you with no work until you find another job and quit. They'll ask you to make macros on your own time for the Indians to use when they take your job. And they'll call you 24/7 and ask you to drop what you're doing to type ONE job - no life for you!

Okay Spheris is not the only one that does not want you to say anything bad about them. I had to sign something similar for my present company. For goodness sake. These comapnies should realize if the shoe fits they should "wear it." This truly is becoming a slave market for MTs. More difficult dictators, lower pay, out of work, inconsistent specifics, etc. It is getting so Wal-Mart is looking pretty good.

I do not get the reasoning for this at all!! If what MedQ has is highly trained MTs who occasionally need a second pair of ears to confirm a phrase or occasionally come across a term that cannot be found through research...isn't that what QA is for?? And if QA is so overwhelmed by MTs sending them stuff...then I think the answer is MTs that are not qualified to work on their own...not to penalize vilify the MT who does use QA rarely. Embarrassed to ask this question...but... In applying for MT positions, some applications have a required field for inserting one's resume. The only option in this field is to select "browse." Clicking on this, and then Desktop, reveals my desktop icons, including my resume. Opening this icon automatically populates the field on the application with the info: C:mynamedesktop...etc. I thought that desktop icons were only shortcuts to my documents and not documents in themselves ...

Just one more thought. I have never, ever, known anyone who has left Medquist or Spheris and regretted it. They may bounce back and forth just to get by, but in the long run, when they are finally finished, they are finished. For all of those MTs who don't want to start over, please don't take that attitude. I did and it only got worse and when I did change it wasn't that bad at all. Again, could it get any worse? ...

Now I know I did the right thing in not only leaving the Q but leaving the field altogether. I had another physical last week and my blood pressure was back down to 120/70, and my doctor was very happy when he learned I had quit. They wasted no time in sending me labels to ship the computer back, though. Oh well.. they don't want the monitor, or mouse, or keyboard, so I'm keeping those! ...

Urine welkenton? Not sure of spelling, since I'm not sure it's really a word. They could also be saying welkington. That's what the dictation sounds like and I've listened to it several times on numerous days. Can't find a reference to it anywhere and I've tried many variations. Wondering if it's a really old term or if I'm completely misunderstanding. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ...

I do believe now that they are starting to target those of us who were making 10/6. In the past, on my old accounts, I was audited no more than once a month. If I failed an occasional audit, they would wait another month to see how I did on that one and since I always passed, no action was taken. Just had a doctor dictate "potassium 40 mg," (should have been mEq) and then further down, "Levemir 40 mg" (should have been units). If I had not left blanks for them, that would have been 6 points off. It also compelled me to use my allotment of blanks for that report! But they, of course, do not get penalized for their mistakes. On the other hand, our pay is docked. There is a double standard here that needs to be changed. ...

that I have had in a dictation, and I am sure that the dictator (PA-C) is annoyed as well. It's always annoying when she chitty-chats with the "girls in the office" while dictating, but in this dictation, one of the girls is mocking back everything the dictator says and continues to do so, after a little chuckle from dictator each time, to the point where the dictator finally has to tell her that this is important, it is for an attorney and she cannot mess it up. ...
