Regarding the old reports used for training at MDI - I believe it

Posted: Nov 25, 2009

I believe that these are old reports used for training, but I don't think they are training new MTs on the account.  I believe they are training VR.  Someone mentioned below that it doesn't make sense to pay someone to do old reports that have already been done, and I agree with that also.  Plus, think about the fact that MDI had never, ever trained like this before, even after receiving email after email asking where all our work was going and why we had no work.  Why would they take all the work away from us and let us sit for MONTHS with no work when they could have trained people on old reports all the other times??

I truly believe it is because they didn't want to pay people to train while not being productive at the same time.  So why the change now?  They're training the accounts on VR.  They don't have to pay the VR system, and what better way to keep current on the TAT *and* train at the same time without having to lose money? Plus, what a wonderful way to train the VR system without the doctors actually having to take *their* time to do it!  The clients feel no effects whatsoever during this training process and the whole changeover to VR goes smoothly and seamlessly for them.

It's not that I trust them when they say they're training.  I don't trust them anymore as far as I could throw the buildings they're in.  They can get away with saying they're training, but they figure they don't have to tell us the whole truth.  And we all know that we're going to go to VR as soon as possible because that's just the way Transcend works.  They always have.  In fact, they even mentioned the MDI accounts going to VR by 2010 in their press release.

So think about this.  If Transcend announces MDI accounts going to VR by 2010, why would they train new MTs at the end of 2009 when VR will cut the work load in half? Either they're sadists or have other plans.  Hence, the training on old reports.

Just for your info, why do you think you have to do old - Not afriad of Big Bad Wolf

reports to learn VR? It might take 2 days, if that, to get it down pat. It is not rocket science. I do VR every day and love it. So many scarrrred of this, my goodness!

Where did you get that impression from my post? - OP

[ In Reply To ..]
I never once said I was afraid of doing VR. I've done VR quite a few times, and although some have very good experiences with it, mine were mixed. I had wonderful reports that I could just fly through, but unfortunately I didn't see many of them. Most of the reports I got were the ones that needed a ton of correction.

But that's neither here nor there. I said nothing about being afraid of doing VR and I said nothing about the MTs having to do old reports to train on VR. I said that THE SYSTEM is training on old reports to learn the dialects, inflections, and accents of the different dictators BEFORE the dictators actually have to do the VR dictation. What better way to train THE SYSTEM on each account than to have THE SYSTEM learn from old reports.

My post had nothing to do with being scared of VR. It was about a change in the way MDI was doing things from previously and what would be happening in the future. If comprehension isn't your thing, maybe it's a good thing you love VR.

Please read again, I said SO many, not you in particular - Not afraid of Big Bad Wolf

My goodness, why do not people read these posts like they come out? The VR system I learned on DID not have to start with old reports. It learned almost from the very word go. We were told would have same salary UNTIL it learned, then it would drop to 4 cpl. The MTs thought well good luck on that as far as VR learning the doctors that we had. I think our used to be pay lasted about a total of 2 weeks BUT during that time we were working on right out of the gate dictations. Please read again and see I said MANY, did not say YOU.
So sorry... sm - I believe it

It must have been the heading 'Just for YOUR info' and 'why do YOU think YOU have to...' that gave me the impression it was directed at me.

Reports training VR system, not training people - VR

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't work for these companies, but from my experience with my current employer and VR, it sounds like they possibly are using the reports to train the VR software, not to train people at this point. The software needs to "learn" the dictators' speech patterns, etc.

Just my opinion from reading here, and this may not be what is going on at all.

That's exactly what I meant. nm - I believe it.

my experience with VR, at my place of work FT, is that the doctors had no clue that backend speech was even going on, and not every doctor "passes the test" either for VR. Some docs were very surprised that we were doing VR, and others when they found out, wanted their dictation done traditionally as there were too many mistakes being made. We use Dictaphone ExText and after 3 years it still has not "learned" as they told us it would and we are always behind. I do the customization correction for our system and so far I've seen no improvement. Well, that is my experience with VR. Don't particularly like it, but I have to do it to keep my FT job. Hopefully both systems work similarly or I will be totally confused.

It is also a good way not to have to pay out that 9 cents per line! - tricked again

And have it take almost as long as typing the report with all the correction and fixing to be done.

Who Is Training ASR??? Definitely Not The MT!
Jul 04, 2013

Every day ASR gets increasingly of base.  There are so many times when I have to sit and search each line looking for anything that remotely resembles what is being clearly dictated. It started out with maybe 35% accuracy before editing.  Now it barely makes 20%. It inserts phrases that were never dictated, apparently just because that dictator dictated that phrase at one time in the past on a different patient.  It is having fun with "ALLERGIES" now.  It started off only usi ...
