....especially for something like psych where you can't make as many big normals like you would be able to do with other specialities. I would have liked to work some extra on some psych accounts, but that pay is just disgusting.

No kidding! Offering 6 cpl is a total insult, not only for psych - but for everything else too

With a wage offer like this, I think they should just bite the bullet and hire off-shore. 6 cpl might be a good wage for an ILP, but an American MT is going to find it extremely difficult to make ends meet every month on 6 cpl.

The line rate for MTs has not increased in 23 years. If our rates had increased at the same rate as the cost of medical care, we would be making approximately 45 cents per line by now. The problem is MTs who tolerate this so they can work at home. It keeps the rest of us from ever getting a raise.

I've always made more money at home than in-house and wouldn't care to go back, until the Big Four decided to send our medical records to a third world company.

Also, When I quit Spear-Us a few years ago they were paying 2.4 cents per line for VR and their platform was a mess, and I had worked there for over 10 years. Such loyalty!!!!

Are they STILL sending overseas??? OMG. Unbelievable. If that is the case, then malpractice insurance must have skyrocketed to cover the errors.

There have always been newbies charging 2 cents per line less than the going rate to get accounts. The last place I worked they lowered their rate and everone was just fine about it. What other profession would anyone just sit back and be OK with their income dropping when we haven't even had a cost of living increase since in a quarter of a century?
They said they could replace us with VR. We warned them but they went ahead and spent a tremenous amount on these shaky plateforms riddled with bugs and got trash out of them. Now they still have to hire MT editors to clean up the mess. Why should we pay for their stupidity?
I just wish there was a real organization for MTs that cared about the MTs. AAMT was a joke that lowered our rates even further by switching from the gross line count to the 65 character line count. As long as we passively allow agencies like this and services owners to continue making such profits and paying practically nothing, it will not improve. Last I surveyed MTSO rates they were charging about .22 cents per line and paying .05 to .07 cents a line. That's quite a profit with no overhead!

I've been working for a national company for over 5 years and all of my accounts have been transitioned to 100% SR work at 4.5 cents per line (a far cry from what I used to make). When I took the Career Step course not even 5 years ago, the industry supposedly was paying on average 6-9 cents a line. I worked in a hospital at an hourly wage for a few years and was recently laid off and am working at one of the online companies now - and I REALLY want to know what happened to the 6-9 cents a line I was told was industry standard FIVE years ago? I'm making 4 cents a line now -- how does an industry pay LESS 5 years later? ...

Noticed in the MQ MT "rewards" plan (wow I can't even type that w/o laughing), that as of Feb 1 the pay will be a flat 4 cents per line for ASR. It does say this applies to new hires only; however, it says if hired prior to Feb 1 the editing rate will be "equal to the greater of 60% of the transcription base rate." What does "equal to or greater of 60%" mean exactly? Does that just mean 60% of your regular straight transcription rate like it is now?&nbs ...

This is probably a dumb question, but please no snide remarks. If you do not have any constructive comments, please move on. If you only do QA and are paid by cents per line (NOT hourly), how do you make any money or plan your day. Are you not dependent on how many reports other Medical Transcriptionists send to QA? She says the offer was "set in stone." This makes me believe that MQ is going to either try to cut everyone's ASR pay to 4 cents a line. They will either get rid of the ones somehow (nit pitting followed by QA pay cuts, making "tweaks" to DQS that are annoying and slow us down, causing up to want to quit, etc) or we will accept their new "set in stone" rate. Hey, I thought the moderator "unposted" the jobs that were posted here if they paid less than 4 cents a line. I wonder whatever happened to that? It seems like I read that somewhere, anyhow. At 3 cents a line, TTD is beginning to bump up against the states' minimum wages. The only way that I see that they will be able to get around that is by saying they will hire independent contractors only, and I don't think we are all so stupid as to take 3 ...

I have a question: I currently make 8 cents a line, but it is VBC. If I had a job that paid 7 cents normally, but paid for spaces and other things in the report would one be coming out ahead making at least 8 cents a line or may be even more when it is all figured out?
