Holding against a person for working with different services? - AT

Posted: Dec 11, 2010

Who knows how the companies choose  and what they actually go by.  Too many services worked for?  One would not think so because they all know how cut-throat they are and how they treat the employees. Does anyone even know how they come up with this huge linecount and then only benefits if you produce huge numbers every single day, and now we have a new rate now that VR is in full swing.   Where are the guidelines?  They can give you pennies and you have to be happy.  Who is governing this?  Where did 3 cents come from?  Who has decided that 7 cents is the now going rate for typed reports and 3 cents for editing?  Does anyone know what the hospitals are really paying in that they say they are doing it to save money?  It used to be 14 cents a line, and that was like 20 years ago.  Although 20 years ago it was 8 cents a line if you had your own doctor you worked for and you had to pay your own taxes.

Rumor has it that if you interpret Chinese you get 19 cents a word!!

They give pennies and you have to be happy?? NO. You - are not indentured to this company. Start looking.

Our free market economy. When it works well (and it - Pragmatist

[ In Reply To ..]
seldom actually does, being only an ideal to strive for), wages are set at the lowest point at which sufficient qualified people will hire on to work for them.

In times of great change, which the entire planet is going through, including MTs here in the US, this obviously requires a lot of wage "experimentation" by employers and a lot of stress and uncertainty for employees as wages move toward, around, below, and up to a current "lowest" level, which will change once again as market conditions change, and yet again.

Don't forget to factor in that the working/lower-middle middle class has not seen real wage increase in the past 30 years, despite great growth in national wealth and despite greatly increased costs of such things as home ownership and healthcare. If you feel poorer than you once were, it's because you are. The increase in national wealth is going into the pockets of the wealthiest classes, the middle class is shrinking, and the impoverished class is growing. Failure or success of free market principles? Depends on one's ideology.

Sadly, although for some years after computerization many MTs made far more than market conditions would have dictated because wages did not adjust down quickly, probably very, very few saved for the inevitable decline in wages. Before this last economic crash scared some sobriety into us, the annual household savings rate in the U.S. was actually a negative number.

By the way, if you think THIS is fun, just wait until gasoline is $7 a gallon, and more. The planet is running out of the oil that currently fuels everything we do one way or another, and we WERE and still ARE too busy helping powerful oil companies maintain their profits to develop adequate alternative energy sources in time to save ourselves a LOT of grief. On the plus side (a BIG one), it will be nice to be able to work from home. Happy Holidays.

Cornerstone Professional Services - I Love Working For Them!
Jun 06, 2013

I've been working for Cornerstone Professional Services for a few years now.  I love working for them!  They pay on time (direct deposit) every time.  I don't know what former staff was like, but I've read some negative reviews about them.  I can honestly say the current staff is VERY supportive.  They do everything possible to make the MT successful.  Any critiquing that is done is always in good taste and and even good humor.  The supervisor is a transcriptionist herself, ...

Holding Work

NJA.....see this message first thing in the morning....throughout the day...all of a sudden work I had not seen for months appears and it is all LATE...priority reports that are old. Makes one think they are 'holding' work for some people! It was denied by my manager.  I have worked this account for 10 years - I know what I used to type and make a living at....but not now!      ...

Holding My Breath
Apr 05, 2013

Okay, the platform was down for a bit this morning but, other than that, I've had enough work for my 4-hour shift. Last week, I had 3 days where the work was light but now it seems to be back to normal. However, I haven't had anything from my 6 backup accts, -- don't know the reason. Now I'm paranoid and find that suspicous. I still don't know if I'm safe or not. Mgr is leaving soon, so maybe they're waiting to clean house in our region at that time. I ...

MTSO Holding Back Their Top Level MTs On Purpose.
Aug 02, 2011

This has been bothering me for many months now but I feel so stuck needing my benefits.  I can't change jobs because I rely on the medical insurance and can't afford Cobra while changing jobs.  I love working 3rd shift and my job gladly accomodates; however, I'm constantly sold short because I'm left being the only 3rd shift MT most nights, expected to check queue on 5 different account log-ins to monitor TATs and logging in and out accordingly.  Obviously thi ...

Oct 25, 2012

I just recently upgrade to Windows 7 from XP.  I was wondering if there is something different I need to do in programming things or making macros. I have a macro I use to move around in documents.  I never had issues with building this in XP or it working.  BUT I have built it now four times.  It seems to work just fine till I reboot the computer and then it is lost.  Or today it seemed to work till I exited WORD2003 and then came back.  AND I finally got th ...

QA Person
Jul 30, 2012

What exactly are the duties of a QA person?  Whenever I make a mistake she lets me know, of course, but she is always adding a snide remark and make me feel like I am still in school.  I am sick and tired of it.  I am thinking about complaining to my CCM, but I am not sure I want go that route yet.  I have saved all of her sarcastic comments.  So I made a mistake, she is not perfect.  She should just tell me about it and let it go.  I am not stupid.  I ack ...

Anybody Else Have A QA Person
Jan 01, 2014

Honestly, every time I get a big ding it is from one person. Everyone else seems to not mark me off much. Pardon my paranoia, but I just have to wonder if this person is targeting me and poring through my work until they find the one that has the errors and that's the one they end up reviewing. And about these "Major Errors" (or otherwise) - one middle digit off in platelets, really? 3 points? I know that is officially the rule, but to my knowledge unless platelets are particularly low or ...

I read what you wrote and it touched my heart.  You sound like a really nice person who is just looking for the right option for you. I understand that. Like I said, it touched my heart, so I started brainstorming in your behalf from what I did and what might work for you.  Please don't laugh at my suggestions. They come from my heart. You mentioned that you wouldn't be able to use the $1,000 for Andrews. I can't remember what school you were required to use it at, but ...

VR Person From Thread Way Down Below.
Jan 20, 2010

When a company decides to make an account VR, are all the reports a mess to begin with for weeks or months until the voice engine (sorry if that's the wrong term) learns from the "straight" transcription that is done?  Why do different platforms matter (i.e., E-scription versus M-Modal, etc).  Is it possible for a company to get an account and make it VR from day 1, or do they have MTs do regular transcription on it for awhile? I guess I'm just trying to figure outwhat I sho ...

New Person Starting Out
Jan 19, 2015

I worked in this business over 30 years and my daughter has always had an interest.  She talked to the major school and they told her the starting salary is about 40,000, and that a large proportion pay by the hour.  I told her the truth about the hours and about what she could expect to make with pay going down so much.  I would like some feedback about what new people out of school are seeing as far as the pay now.  It's been a long time since I actually transcribed, I ...

Person Looking For Advice On MT School

A friend is asking me for advice on becoming an MT.  My first instinct is to talk them out of it, as this career is on a fast track down the pooper.  But I'm sure they'll insist.  Anyone know of any good transcription schools that are legit?  I have no idea, because I didn't go to school for MT.  I got a lucky start from a relative who was an MTSO.    Thanks for any suggestions! ...

the word "the," can you imagine how hard it will be to find another job when you have failed audits?  People probably assume (and rightly so) that you put in erroneous information or left out vital information from dictation -- something that brought about harm to the patient.  There is no way you could possibly get them to believe that in reality you put out beautiful work every day all day, and it was a discrepancy over whether the dictation read "Lab tests were normal" versus "The l ...
