Jobs Going the Way of the Dodo Bird? - akchick

Hello all!

I have been considering returning to school to become a medical coder, abstractor, or cancer / tumor registrar.

Any advantages or thoughts regarding one over the other?

I am also wondering if the EMR mandate (and EMR improvements) are in any way going to phase out any of these positions? I have read of such a thing as computer-assisted coding, and some say that, no, people will always be needed to code correctly, but I wonder, if eventually everything gets plugged in the system and systems improve.

Thanks much for your time!
Erica
