cancer registry work - ex30yrmt

Erica, I switched from MT to cancer registry 1-1/2 years ago. I have a M-F job with bennies, excellent time off, true paid holidays with gainsharing, and wonderful, American, empowering leadership. They also pay for my school. I visit this board often to encourage other women to leave what has become an abusive, wretched job. Our skill set transfers quite nicely. We comb through the medical record picking out pertinent information (computer assisted coding cannot do this). Once we have our information we code what is pertinent. That's an oversimplification, but if you're thinking about doing it, I would tell you that you'll never look back at transcription again. Start with the NCRA-org website. There are accredited schools (you will need an associates degree). It took me 3 years to get through the curriculum, but I'm going to sit for my certification exam in early 2018. Good luck in finding another career and if you have any questions I'm happy to help.
