does achromatic fit for describing extern oblique fascial fibers? - cp

Posted: Mar 15, 2011

I tried to look up this word used in this way but didn't find much to support.  It sounds right!

The skin was incised with a scalpel, and the subcutaneous tissues were dissected with electrocautery down to the external oblique fascial fibers which were somewhat achromatic.

Could have a "p" in it.  Apromatic (but not a word).  Definitely ends in -matic.

Thank you.

my first thought was "atraumatic" ?? /nm - mt

It could fit...sm - GT

depending on what doc expects to see. Achromatic means without color. Maybe the fibers were a different color than usual ??

atraumatic - julie

Could be atraumatic. Chromatic has to do w/color, and achromatic would be w/o color--which does not apply here. Was the patient in an accident or fell down? If so, could be 'atraumatic.' Sometimes the docs just mispeak and make things sound like something they're not.

it's definitely not atraumatic - cp

Thank you. I am going to send it in for question so I will let you know when I get it back!

It is inguinal hernia repair.

The answer is - ecchymotic. - cp

I flagged the word and had it checked.

It was ecchymotic.

Thank you again.
