Rx versus prescription - Katie

Posted: Apr 07, 2012

I have a dictator saying "Will rx for an arterial Doppler...." and also says "Rx-ed for a Multi Podus boot..."  Should I type it as rx and rx-ed or should I change this to prescribe and prescribed?  (Not verbatim account).  Thanks!!

I always type the word out. Same when they say "DC" instead of discontinue or discharge.

Agree with writing it out and ... - sm

Suggest using "order" instead of prescribe for tests and other things that are customarily ordered and not prescribed. "Will order an arterial Doppler."

I don't recommend changing to "ordered." IMHO, that is too much of an edit, and they often DO write on a prescription pad or other sheet for these sort of tests. I certainly agree with expanding to prescribe, prescription, etc.

Landmarkers Prescription Med Help
Jan 28, 2011

Others may have figured this out but if this helps someone with getting prescriptions great.  I was going through my 90 days probation, no insurance, but still had scripts with refills.  Finally I talked with Wal-Mart and the medication I had been going without was only $4 per month without insurance, so you might want to see if you can go that route. Secondly, if and when this mess gets figured out, don't forget about the loss of compensation to the MT for the month of Janu ...

End Point Versus Endpoint And Hand Grip Versus Handgrip
Mar 13, 2012

Two words that come up often for questioning.  These are strictly used in an orthopedic setting.  Stedman's and Dorland's list end point and hand grip HOWEVER the office transcription manager,  girl is asking for me to correct this to endpoint and handgrip. She is only basing this on what an old medical transcription company she used to work for had her typing. I would rather base it on the  medical reference. The doctors are not even aware this has come up. She is ...

VR Versus SR
Feb 20, 2010

I am not familiar with VR and have never used it, but I understand that there is a difference between voice recognition (VR) and speech recognition (SR). I am told the difference is that with VR the program has to be trained because it goes by voice only, sort of like us getting used to different dictators when we start a new account.  SR is supposedly different in that it goes by speech alone, meaning I guess, just the actual words dictated and is not affected by voice differences. Does ...

CCA Versus CCS
