Two different doctors have dictated these medications on this patient. When searching online, I find them but they are not marketed in the US. Is it common practice to blank these in the report or to transcribe as dictated?

I've had this situation a few times. - sweetgirlsmom

Sometimes doctors will prescribe a drug from another country because the patient benefits a great deal. That drug or equivalent drug may not be available in the US.

There is a compassionate use protocol that doctors use to prescribe drugs in certain situations. I don't know the details, but it could apply to those patients.

Some people buy drugs online from other countries because they are cheaper there. A doctor might go along with that, especially if not doing so means the patient will go without the medication because they can't afford the US price.

Many drugs are marketed first in other countries and then tested here for a certain time. Sometimes the drug is then approved for sale in the US. The doctors and patients might be involved in that testing. The fact that two doctors dictated the same medications makes me think that might be the case. (One of my doctors did that with my informed consent).

If a patient lives in another country part of the time, they may find it impossible to get certain US medications while they are there or cost is an issue. Sometimes people just trust medications from their own countries more, and have better compliance that way.

There may be other reasons I'm not aware of. In my reports, if I can verify the spelling, indication, and dosage, I go ahead and type what the doctor dictates.

Others may have figured this out but if this helps someone with getting prescriptions great.  I was going through my 90 days probation, no insurance, but still had scripts with refills.  Finally I talked with Wal-Mart and the medication I had been going without was only $4 per month without insurance, so you might want to see if you can go that route.
