New vessel "cabinets"? - NewMT

Posted: May 02, 2010

This dictation sounds like she's saying, "Status post new vessel 'cabinets'"?  I can't find anything online or in any of my literature that even comes close.  Also, it's mentioned that the patient has "...chronic pain with secondary "status text" methadone therapy."  Thanks for any help/advice you have to offer!

I think it should be... - qCMT

I think the doc is probably saying status post 2-vessel CABG (which is pronounced cabbage), abbreviatetion for coronary artery bypass graft. Hope this helps :)

That is right! - NewMT

That is what is being said...can I leave that abbreviation as is or should I put it in parentheses following the written out meaning? Thanks so much!

Depends on client, facility, etc. - qCMT

It would depend on your account specifics, but if you are supposed to follow the BOS, the first time it is used in the report you should expand the abbreviation with the abbreviation in parentheses after it, and then you can just use the abbreviation thereafter in the report, except in major headings like dianoses, impression, procedure, etc., the abbreviations ALWAYS need to be expanded even if it was expanded previously in the report. These are the rules according to the BOS, but if the client/facility/account you transcribe for has their own rules, this may not be the case.

Hope this makes sense :) Have a good evening!
Thanks!! - NewMT

That's what I thought, but I'm still just starting out and I really don't want to mess anything up. Thanks so much for all your help tonight!!

"snow-plowing" A Cardiac Vessel?
Oct 13, 2011

Has anyone heard this term?  I've been doing caths for 15 years and never heard this.  He has a heavy accent so it's not totally clear that is what he is saying.  The context is a cath report - "no intervention because of the risk of (s/l snow-plowing) the vessel".  Thanks! ...

"Thimble" Vessel?
Nov 15, 2009

I have another! Any ideas? She has had a blockage of the “thimble” vessel; totally occluded and so she had a right "thimble" stent placed, and then a stent then bypass back in 2004 that had become obstructed. They went back in and did a left iliac stent to open up that left stent and bypass, to give her blood flow down that left leg. ...
