GU specialists? Council- vs Councill-tip - sm - je suis MT

Posted: Aug 03, 2012

Am finding both spellings in different versions of Stedman's and Tessier.  Anyone got a solid reference or know for a lead pipe certainty?

Thanks.

"I then passed an #18 French Councill-tip Foley over the Glidewire, into the meatus..."

Ooooh, sorry....good luck. - (see message)

I hate when these discrepancies crop up. I've searched and searched for things like this, and sometimes there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. It is spelled "Councill" in one spot and "Council" in another spot on the VERY SAME PAGE in my Stedman's Urology word book!! If I'm REALLY driven to know for sure, I sometimes find out who manufactures the product and see how they spell it on THEIR site. Sorry, I know this doesn't help. Good luck!!

BTW, if you google it both ways, there are many more hits for "Council" (I think), but I don't consider that necessarily "lead pipe certain." :-D

We're on the same page! - sm - je suis MT

That's what was making me crazy, too! Thanks for the good words. I'll try to find a manufacturer & will post if I learn anything definitive:)

council tip - oldone

Google it and you will find a company that sells them. They list the item they sell as a Council-Tip I hate it when things are so cloudy, don't you. Good luck. I know doctors won't notice but QA might With 2 books with 2 different spellings, you're covered!

Thanks - will do as you suggest:) - nm - je suis MT

...just wanted to say that your "handle" ("nickname," whatever people call it!) is really cute: "Je suis MT."

Merci bien!

Although I'm 100% Murican, I have French ancestry on both sides, and the "handle" is my way of paying a small tribute to my family.

I learned French as a child, and it's a bonus when we get words like "bougie", "trocar" and "tamponade".

Merci pour les bon mots:)

....je suis Mme. :-D

Very nice that you have that French background...lucky you! I LOVE the French language. My granddaughter attends a lovely French immersion charter elementary school, and she is already pretty fluent for her age of 7 years...her pronunciation is great, learning so young. I took 4 years of French in jr. high and high school, but that was a LOOOONG time ago, and I can only understand or read a few things but would embarrass myself if I tried to speak it. :-D

It DOES come in handy when I encounter a phrase in a book sometimes or for a few terms that we run across once in a while in medical transcription. You forgot one of my favorite: "peau d'orange." :-D

Bon nuit! (I think that's good night??) LOL!
C'est bien, ca! - sm - je suis MT

For your granddaughter to be able to learn so young is wonderful. She will likely retain at least some of it throughout her life. If you don't mind subtitles, I find that watching French films helps to remind me of words or phrases that might otherwise be lost.

There is a charming duo of books/movies by Marcel Pagnol, La Gloire de mon Pere and Le Chateau de ma Mere. The books can sometimes be found with English on one side of page and French on the other. The films are delightful (semi-autobiographical, loving family, set at the turn of the last century in France). Your granddaughter is about the age of the young Marcel in the movie, and you two might enjoy watching together.

A bientot, mon amie:)
Wow, je suis MT - that's great! - (see message)

Thank you for the French book/movie recs! I'm making note of those on my Amazon wishlist so I'll have them for future gift ideas....always nice to have something "different" in mind that she's not expecting. Those sound very sweet and like something I'd enjoy, too.

These kids spend the majority of their school day, from kindergarten on, using only French....even Math lessons. It's remarkable how well they pick it up, and I hope she'll keep it fresh throughout her life...I know it's easy to let it lapse.

Take care, and thanks again for the suggestion! Nice "talking" to you. :-)
