Ambulation - pedal pusher

Posted: May 16, 2010

Has anyone ever heard ambulation used to mean anything other than walking on the lower extremities?  I just had a dictator say:  "The patient is able to walk a few steps; otherwise, he is ambulating in a wheelchair."

Really????

Still pushin' da pedal....

Ambulate basically does mean walk, but there's also the definition of "move from one place to the next." It's a bit of a stretch, but still acceptable, in my opinion. The word ambulance comes from the word ambulate.

I just type those as dictated and not worry about it.

Ambulation Description - Significant List?

The doctor is explaining the pt's ambulation due to lumbosacral spondylosis for which he is doing radiofrequency ablation for.  It s/l he is saying "list." With ambulation she has definitely got a significant (list) to the left side.  She can heel-and-toe walk without much difficulty, and her balance appears to be quite good.  Thanks! ...
