Transcription Buddy vs. Express Scribe - need a clue

Does anyone out there have pointers on how to get Transcription Buddy to work when we take online tests with companies? I had read on this board that TB is preferable over ES because ES tends to install bugs and other undesirables on our computers. Plus, ES wants money after 2 weeks of the free trial. TB lets you try it for free for 30 days. However, I tested today for a company and tried to use TB, without luck. Ended up having to install ES to take the tests. Any advice?

Hi, as I mentioned I don't know anything about Transcription Buddy (never heard of it), but The Record Player by For The Record was used by a company that I did general transcription for. It's free and plays all voice files. It takes a bit of getting used to as far as loading files, but if you search the archives, I did post on how you load files on it, etc. It also is great because it has 4-channel capabilities, so if you are going general transcription with multiple speakers, you can mute the other speakers our if you can't understand what a speaker is saying. I also like the rewind feature on it because if you rewind just a little bit, it moves quickly back to that point in dictation. I think that the sound quality is better on this player than Express Scribe as well.

I found your detailed instructions for "The Record Player" by For the Record. Thanks for taking the time to explain in such nice detail. I'll look into this for my next test.

I'm glad you were able to find them. When I did the instructions I was literally "doing the steps," and posting at the same time. If you still have any sample test dictation files, I would download the program and just play with it to see how you might like it :)

Google old version express scribe and - sm

install an older version and it stays free forever. I use version 5.13. There is nothing other than video capability on the new one. It will NOT play DS2 files fully even after you buy it - it's a sham.

I have voice files sent to me that I cannot play in Windows Media or Express Scribe. They will load in ES but show 00:00 duration. I thought possibly it was an encryption error as they possibly they are coming that way to be because they are secure but I sent to a friend and she can open them and play them. Hi, I bought ES Pro in 2012 and have not had any problems with playing dictation. I also have DSS to WAV to convert files. I converted a DS2 file to WAV but a message pops up that I'm using a "demo trial version for evaluation use only" and I now need to purchase an upgrade. Ugh!!! I have just started having trouble with Express Scribe. Regardless of whether I am using the foot pedal or the function keys, it is as if the program does not recognize what I am doing. Sometimes it takes multiple presses of the stop button or taps on the footpedal to get the dictation to stop. Sometimes when I press reverse on the footpedal I end up playing or fast forwarding. I have a pedal that I used with Express Scribe about 5 years ago. It says IN-BMG on the bottom. I worked independently for a local office using old school dictation with a tape player so packed up my pedal.
