Windows 7 vs. DocQScribe help! - sscott

Posted: Aug 10, 2012

I have a job offer from one of the Nationals.  Previously my employer supplied my equipment, but now I have to purchase my own.  DocQScribe is the platform for the account I will be assigned to.  In their specs, they said I needed a 32-bit OS, but all I can find is 64-bit unless I spend a fortune on a custom system.  (My personal computer is a Mac, so no joy there).  I've been advised that Win7 can be switched to run either 32 or 64 bit.  Will this work with DQS, or am I doomed to spend WAY too much money on a custom machine?  Need valid, experienced answers ASAP or I may lose my shot at the job.  Thanks!

This is a complicated question - MT

If you are referring to MModal, I can offer some info. Maybe 2/3 of the regions are now on DQS7 or 7.1 which will run on Windows7. The rest of us, me included, are still on DQS6.1 which will only run on WindowsXP, ie 32-bit OS. DQS6.1 will not run on Windows7. I have gotten around that by using VMware, a virtual computer running XP. I would be sure to ask the recruiter what area you will be assigned to and which version of DQS you will be on. I would not waste my time or money buying an older computer for just a few months of work, because in a few months (or so I am told) we will all be on DQS7. Hope this helps!

VMware is free, not hard to set up, but requires a copy of XP to install as the OS. I had already bought Windows Virtual XP and it didn't work, but I used that as the operating system for the VMware, so only about 99 bucks total.

Not MModal - sscott

It's not MModal, it's Superior Global. I've e-mailed the recruiter, but have not received a response yet. So, if I purchase a copy of XP (if I can find it!), and install VMware, the older version of DQS will run on the 64-bit machine? I'm not terribly tech-savvy.

Yes - MT

I am not the most tech savvy person either, but it worked out okay for me. Someone on this board helped me actually. Maybe you could go back in the archives, maybe late last year or so, don't know if they go back that far. Its like having 2 computers on 1 desktop. The virtual XP computer opens in a separate window. Needs at least 4 gb of RAM, 2 for Windows7 and 2 for XP.
Footpedal issues? - sscott
[ In Reply To ..]
I found an older post that stated their foot pedal would not operate in XP mode. Have also seen comments that sometimes the full audio doesn't download on a 64 bit machine. Have you experienced either of these problems, or have they been resolved? Thanks SO much for your help!!!
Yes, that was the issue with Windows XP Pro - MT

That is what happened to me. I bought the Windows XP Pro that would allow a Windows virtual computer that cost 99 bucks. The footpedal would not work with that virtual computer. That's why I ended up with VMware. It all worked out since I used the XP Mode OS for the VMware. If you can get a copy of XP off Ebay or some other place, it may be cheaper. I didn't plan it that way, but it worked. I've never had any problems with the audio not downloading. Sometimes if I do not shut off the VM in the right way, I have to reattach the foot pedal, but it only takes a few clicks.
Sorry, it was Windows 7 Pro and XP mode - within that

Forgive, it was awhile back and my memory is not so good. I got the Windows 7 Professional upgrade that included XP mode, a virtual computer running XP and the footpedal did not work there.

How Do You Get DocQscribe To Work With Windows 7 64 Bit?
Jul 12, 2013

Im an IC for a clinic that utilizes DocQscribe. They do not offer the IC MTs tech support. I am trying to use my back-up computer, which has Windows 7 64 bit. I set IE to run as administrator and went to the website to download the software, but I got an error that said write params failed. From what Ive read, 64 bit is not compatible. If anyone knows a way to get this to work, Id be really grateful for the help. Thanks! ...

Windows 7 And Using Windows XP Mode
Aug 05, 2011

Has anyone ever wanted to work for a company that only used Windows XP and you had Windows 7 but could virtually move to XP mode?  Could you download their software on the XP mode side and get it to work?  I had a job interview where their software only worked on XP.  I thought I could do that, but I had to also have Word 2003.  I only have 2010, but it has the compatability pack for 2003, BUT the client's software couldn't differentiate that.  If I maybe bough ...

My company is switching from straight transcription on DQS to ASR on DQS. I've used DQS for two years and didn't even know they had ASR, but apparently they do. Could any of you with experience on this please give me your opinions of the DQS ASR platform? I'm just not sure I want to go through training if I won't want to stay with this company. I did Escription for awhile at another company and hated it. Thanks in advance! ...

DocQscribe ASR System. Does It Really Get Better?
May 04, 2010

My account was switched over 5 weeks ago and truthfully I don't see improvement.  One day I think maybe it is getting better and the next day it's worse.  It doesn't cap what should be and does cap things that shouldn't.  It has probably 50 different things it uses for "next" or "next is."  It puts q.h.s. one time and at bedtime the next.  It will do a fantastic job on a crappy ESL dictator then get every third word wrong on a good dictator, but the n ...
