ShortHand - What's so different about it? - Confused

Ok, I downloaded Short Hand expander program but, for the life of me, it looks just like the standard auto expander/auto correct that comes with word. I've looked over the very brief tutorial that came with it and I don't see where this will increase my productivity anymore than my current Word-based AC/AE work for me. All those Short Hand experts out there (and I believe there are at least a few of you), can someone tell me how this works differently than what I'm already using within Word? Thanks so much!!!!!!
AutoCorrect only works in Word. - SM
[ In Reply To ..]AC is known to corrupt easily and you lose everything unless you back it up regularly. AC is also limited in the number of entries you can add.
Expanders like Shorthand and Instant Text work in most all Windows programs (even in these board posts) and you can take them with you from job to job. you can program menu shortcuts into these programs where you can't do that in AC. There are too many pluses to using an expander instead of AC to state in a single board post.
You are right - in the sense
[ In Reply To ..]that Shorthand uses the same mechanism as Autocorrect: you need to make up a short form, make sure it is unique in your list, and memorize it to get the expansion.
The only expander that offers more advanced features is Instant Text:
- You don't have to make up a short form and memorize it
- You can compile a glossary in an instant from your own transcription
- Instant Text suggest what is likely to come next
- You can import a previously used list with a few clicks
While in Instant Text you can still do everything you do with a traditional expander, these advanced features may be something you are looking for.

[ In Reply To ..]Can only give you my experience with this; here goes. Word and Shorthand are very, very similar. The only actual difference I could find was that I could save long paragraphs in Shorthand that would not save enitrely in Word due to space limitations with Word. I do use the best of both simultaneously. The only reason I purchased Shorthand was to use the additional space I needed for some of my accounts. So far, it has paid for itself. If you do not have need of the extra space, would save the cost and stick with Word. Hope this helps.

Since I'm unable to use MS auto correct with my current platform I explored Shorthand, a program I used years ago. They've gotten too smart for me. All I want to do is add words on the fly. Does it work interactively in MS Word? Can you easily transfer your entries from Autocorrect to Shorthand? I was checking out Instant Text but apparently now you have to download it, not avail on disk. I think this means if your computer crashes and/or you want it on a new computer you have to RE-BUY it (at almost $200)...yeah I don't think so! ...

Don't know why this is not working . . . I need to get the "Suggestion Window Font" to a bigger size. I have changed the font to say Times New Roman 14 and it shows that it changed it in the "Suggestion Window Font" but when I go into my report and run a shorthand word it stays small, never changed. I am utilizing shorthand as an expander. During entering shortcuts, I seem to be inadvertantly pressing more than one key (my flying fingers) that is shutting shorthand down in the middle of a report. It is a bear to try to finish a report without the use of shorthand (we do get so used to it).
