meaningful use - tired

Posted: Apr 11, 2015

read the article in the link -- has more to do with physicians and the next "meaningful use" level; pretty interesting regarding coming requirements, the big companies involved with software, etc.  Not pertinent directly to MT but I found it interesting just the same.  sorry if I should have put this on some other board (I work for Nuance).

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea all this was going on. Read the doctor comments section there if you have not already.

meaningful use article is pretty biased.

I work in and am a consumer of the healthcare industry.

Never been told to update the patient's place of work anually. Do have to annually update the insurance because it can and frequently does change.

Don't have to logon and create an account with the various vendors I go see to get a copy of or results of my lab work. Just drop by the place that drew the blood.

If you notice that this particular website is from the practitioner's point of view, and that many of them are 'angry' over some changes that are taking place, their interpretation is going to the extreme.

You decide if you want your information ssteamed to your compouter, your phone, etc. Otherwise contact the place that did the work an get it that way.

The point of the 'shared information' between facilities should be apparent. How many times have you typed that the patient had such and such done 3 days ago but cannot get the report so let's just do it again.

Cannot imagine how much money we pay out of pocket to redo testing simply because X facility cannot obtain it from Y facility in a timely manner.

It was my understanding from the article that some of these things have not begun yet (updating place of work yearly, etc.)but will be in the next step of the meaningful use. I don't think this article should be dismissed merely because it was written by a practitioner and seems biased to some.

Will Meaningful Use Requirements Knock Out Scribes?
May 03, 2012

Interesting article about stage 2 meaningful use, particularly committees trying to decide if it prohibits anyone but a physician entering data into the EMR.  The article specifically references scribes, but I wonder what the implications are for MT. http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/do-doctors-have-be-typists-get-mu-incentives ...

New EMR Mandate "meaningful Use"
Apr 29, 2011

I am jujst starting to research this issue and wondering if anyone here has any information on how this affects us as MTs.  The EMR I am currently working in is Medent and they are trying to comply with this new mandate.  For me this means the docs point and click on the assessment/diagnosis.  Then I type the dictated Plan/Comments.  both these fields are printed out for the patients in compliance with the 'meaningful use" which says that the patient will have to be prov ...
