What is the procedure when there is no work available? - BuyOutEmployee

Posted: Jul 05, 2012

I have never worked for a company that does not have this spelled out "in writing".  Why is everything so vague with "N"?  What is the procedure when we log in and there is no work besides notifying supervisor?  I see goose eggs for the backlog and dread logging in. All I get from supervisor is a vague response.

Thank you for any information.

They expect... - Tired MT

you to log in and wait, and wait, and wait for work to come in. Log out.. and then recheck again later repeating the above steps. THEN, at the end of the pay period they expect you to go into Webclock and "delete" those hours you spent WAITING for work, so as it will "match" the hours you "physically" worked. BS!!!

When i worked there, they expected me to work my schedule as described by the previous post, and then make up time from Friday to Sunday ONLY. Not paying for all hours worked in an employee position is totally illegal, and I'm betting this practice will eventually result in legal action, like a class action lawsuit against Nuance for wage and hour law violations.

My suggestion is that you keep track of your schedule, how much work was available and when, the exact times you checked your work queue and found nothing, the times you actually found work and for how long it lasted, and email a report to your supervisor on a daily basis, keeping a copy or sending a copy to your personal email address and keeping it in a file for future reference.

Also, it is my personal opinion that there should be a limit on how many accounts you are assigned in order to receive enough work. So, keep track of any results of low work volume such as being assigned multiple accounts and how that works for you. Of course, these records should reflect date, time, who was contacted, who responded, what action was taken, etc..

I don't delete anything from time card. s/m - mt_not_for_long

I sat here yesterday w/out work most of the time for 4-1/2 hours. I finally just logged out for the rest of my shift. I am not changing my time sheet to reflect jack. I've also emailed the Dept of Labor and asking them a few questions about this practice of "flexing" and MUP only on weekends.

Thank God I'm almost done with this crap and can move on to a different career.

If you get a response back from the Dept of Labor, would you be so kind as to post it here? I'm very interested in what they have to say.
Yes I will. It said 3 days until someone answers my questions. - mt_not_for_long

So hopefully by Monday, I have some answers.

MUP - Sheesh.

"...make up time from Friday to Sunday ONLY."

This is what my TL's e-mails state, too, plus usually only between specified hours. Must be fun times for those who normally work during those hours(sarcasm).
What a load of crap. - mt_not_for_long

That's so TAT is met on weekends. I'd be ticked if I was scheduled on weekends and the work ran low with all the extras on there. I am scheduled M-F and that is all I work. I refuse to work weekends for the crappy wage they pay. My personal time is worth more.
M-F - Jean9in
[ In Reply To ..]
So are you kept busy M-F? I'm ticked, and I'm scheduled during the week and never have any work. This is ridiculous! They are getting their weekends covered this way.
Sounds like almost everyone is M-F? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I thought it was great I found a M-F shift but it sounds like everyone is doing M-F. That way they don't have to pay differential and can herd us all onto weekends anyway for "flex" time at our sweet 4 cpl.

Nice racket.
Exactly. Load of BS. - mt_not_for_long

I was hired 2nd shift M-F. For personal reasons, I need to work 1st shift, which I've always worked. They told me on my account which is out of CA, the earliest I can start is noon EST. I usually have plenty of work from noon to 8:30 p.m. except for the other day. And yes, this only able to MUP on the weekends is covering THEIR butts in TAT. Extra workers, most of which are NOT elligible for OT. Sick of this place.

Where is it written we are to delete time entries? - mt_not_for_long

but I have gotten in mucho trouble for having MUP.

Most of us try to stay super anon on this board but the contents of that e-mail in the above post is pretty identifiable, gutsy.

what is MUP?
Make Up Pay - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
If your lines/hours don't equal minimum wage at end of pay period, they have to "make up pay" to equal minimum wage.
I understand. s/m - mt_not_for_long

I may ask my TL about this no work, MUP (which I'm not doing on weekends) and see what I get. I have emailed the Labor Dept and this info would be handy.
I found info on "waiting for work" - fedup

on the DOL website. Click on continue and go into the FSLA advisor and it talks about the rules for waiting for work. I would like to hear what everyone here thinks about how it relates to our profession. I'm going to try to find your other post on the update and DOL email and post the link there too.

When did this policy come into play? Maybe it's in one of those emails that I can't read because the email system only works for me about 20 minutes a day, and not consecutively.

In the past 6months I have never - been asked to delete or

Change my timecard like that. Just saying...

it may depend on your TL... - ....

[ In Reply To ..]
every pay week, I get an e-mail that tells me to make sure our webclock system hours "match" the enterprise system of hours worked (as in hours of actual transcription.. ie fingers moving on the keyboard). I have to make all these necessary "corrections" prior to approving my timecard.
