cardiac procedure - 1mt

Posted: Dec 20, 2010

Which is correct?  Cox-Maze; Cox Maze, Cox maze or Cox-maze procedure? I have done it a couple different ways, both Maze and maze,  and never been corrected on either  TIA.

Cox maze, see msg - nycmt

I type it Cox maze, even though i've never found any definitive "correct" way to type it.

my reasoning - Dr. Cox's name is capitalized because it's his name, but i don't hyphenate it because it's not as if it was Dr. Cox and Dr. Maze...it's just a "maze" of incisions, or whatever.

cardiac procecure - 1mt

I too have never been able to clearly verify. Have seen it hyphenated not hyphenated, etc., but as you said, Cox is always capitalized since it's his name, but have also seen maze capitalized. But, you gave a good reasoning - thanks.

Stedman's Cardiology - nm

Lists Cox maze operation as well as maze procedure. Maze is not capitalized in either instance and there is no hyphen in the operation entry.
