more ASR "unlearning" - kcmt

Posted: Jun 20, 2014

so...I just pulled up a report.  Chief Complaint dictated:  Malaise, fever.  Chief complaint according to the ASR:  Coma, Lasix, fever.

I also had a report yesterday that was quite lengthy.  While trying to decipher what the speaker was saying, I also had to weed through almost entire paragraphs of random words that were not dictated and then add the words that clearly were dictated.

I know our counterparts "across the pond" are held to a lesser standard than here is the US, but I cannot imagine anyone training this system to do the stupid things it's doing lately.

Don't forget everyone....fix it at 99.7% or face the wrath!

I had a 20-minute report today that was so bad.... - dnr

I had to make so many corrections in addition to fixing the horrible sentences, that I only did 110 lph for that report. Long reports should net higher line counts due to less ADT due to less reports, but this was terrible. If I hear one more time from the QAM that ASR will learn once we all "get on the same page" with our corrections, I will commit homicide -- just kidding, but one can fantasize a cruel fate for the programmers. I look at other people's work, and it's just not us in the continental America. We are correcting ASR properly.

Stop blaming the programmers - see msg pls

Please, it's not the programmers' fault. It's that these MM and other companies have abused what the VR is supposed to be doing. You can't slam thousands of dictators on it and have thousands of MTs making corrections, and expect it to learn a darn thing.

We can also blame our MTSOs for abusing us by cutting our pay.

I am a little tired of everyone blaming the VR programmers, or even VR itself. It was never designed, or claimed to have been designed, to do what the MTSOs are expecting it to do.

good point. However, it did learn, now in the last month or so - it is Unlearning; see message

as stated from the 6/8 topic Fluency Unlearning, which I now realize should have read ASR Unlearning, the program is unlearning. It did learn for many of my dictators: Headings were capped with the colon, the exam came out right, the punctuation was correct, repeated names were correctly spelled, et cetera. Now, especially in the last month, all of this is just the opposite...why?
and, past, present tense, plural, single are opposite lately. - n/m

It is the programmers' fault. Bad methodology. - dnr

To put every edited report through the speech engine for learning is so flawed because the good and bad editing/meticulous and sloppy editors will not give a quality speech engine. This is demonstrated so well when an account goes from the original group of editors into the big cesspool.

Also, before IT was moved offshore, you could inform IT of an incorrect spelling and they would fix it in the word bank. Not anymore. The word bank is now populated by the cesspool of incorrect spelling which is due to lazy editors. Especially surgical instruments! I don't see how some people pass their audits based on the amount of crud I see.

when I get that, I F11 it - sm

When I have more corrections, then corrext ASR work, I always finish the report, save it and then hit F11 Screw them...I have never heard anything from them either

these topics, though specific to M*Modal ASR, are getting moved - to VR/SR board, which is unfortunate. n/m

is it possible: Once we start making more than minimum wage, - they hit Magic Button to slow us down?

That would make no sense. - sm

MModal gets paid per line like we do. The faster we type, the faster the money rolls in for them. It also keeps things in TAT, which they get penalized for if they fall below. Also, the more work we can get done, the less employees with benefits they have to pay for. They do not want us to slow down to minimum wage, because if we fall below it, they need to pay the difference even though they didn't have any lines to get paid for. They want us fast, accurate and cheap.

Your exactly right, we are production based - sm

There is no incentive or reason for them to slow us down. I kind of have to wonder if those in charge are so far withdrawn they have no clue in the world how bad ASR really is..But we keep taking the crap and plugging along. Wish I knew the answer to fix it all, but I don't.
but, more lines we do, higher our pay rate; they get paid - a flat rate. no message.

I dont get line bonuses.. - sm
