Yikes! - oldANDtiredMT

Posted: Apr 23, 2012

Ok, so I've been spoiled. I was one of the few MQ employees that was only recently transferred to voice wreck from a transcription only account. After 2 weeks of MINIMAL training, I was thrown to the wolves practically without any assistance to master "the beast".  After these 2 weeks of training, I'm BARELY producing 1200 lines per day...and realize I need to be producing 2400 a day to achieve a lower limit of the salary I WAS achieving. Yes, I've been spoiled. My question is...shouldn't I be producing more than that at this stage? How long will it take me to get up to 2400 without any more help? Without any input, I have no clue if I am utilizing all the short-cuts available. At this stage of the game, I need help!

Hmmmm, not sure ... - anon

I've been an employee for 16 years. I'm an MME and probably considered at the very top of my game in this field. In a recent talk with my CCM, she said in a team of 60 she can count on one hand the number of people who produce more than 1500-1600 lines per day, and even fewer that produce 2000 lines per day. I've hit 2400 a few times staying completely focused but even with my experience and work ethic on a reeeeeally good dictation day I can do 1800 but that is only a couple of times a week under the very best of conditions. In order to make what I was making "straight typing/transcription only", I would need to consistently log 2800 lines a day which is a total impossibility for me in an 8-hour day.

Hope this helps. Sorry you lost your transcription-only work - make no mistake about it, doing speech wreck your income WILL fall. I went from earning $30,000 a year a few short years ago to now being on food stamps. When I had my taxes done this year, my tax guy took one look at my W2 and said "How on earth did you make it on this?"

makes me feel better ? - I hit 2200 one day

One day,, average is between 1300 and 1600,,,about a year into ASR

CCM said the average production is 1000-1200 a day - anon

So if you are *consistently* above this, you might be considered one of your region's top producers.
ironic - that's about 60% of what we produced doing transcription - coincidence?
[ In Reply To ..]
I think not!

I produce around 1500 per day - 8 hours

I was you a year and a half ago. It took about 3 months, and it still is not anywhere near what I could make just typing the dang reports. I type 180-200 LPH. I have taken food stamps for my kids since Nuance bought out Focus and switched everything over to speech WRECK and dropped our pay by 1.5 CPL and offered a bogus incentive plan. I tried to remain positive and just keep at it, since it is such a big company; I figured there would always be SOME way to make money with them. Turns out we are all just making money FOR them. LOL. I have been with them for 4 years and I am looking for a straight-typing job now. I realize this is the future of all MT work, so I am going to transition to legal transcription or other document transcription in preparation for the day that all of the medical records are SR and EMR linked. But for now...I am looking to be an MT again, and not a machine-checker.

I was 'spoiled' too...had a GRAVY Radiology account that had some SR but that was compensated by the large normals I could insert with a few clicks...it was like 70/30 typing/SR. 3rd shift 10 CPL....ah the good ol days. : ( I had to learn a new account (go non-DSP again after 3 years), learn new software, and go to SR all at once. It was literally traumatizing. I have depression/anxiety and had to readjust meds. Not kidding!

Production - old and burned out

You should be able to do better eventually but not as well as you need to. The reason is the ASR is so bad that it takes longer to correct it than to straight type and they will not let us use F11.

I average 1600 to 1900 a day - mom2huskies

Sometimes I can get above 2000 lines but I cannot do that every day. I might have 2 or 3 days in a row where I can make the 2000 line mark. My best day was 2700. Still my checks are getting smaller. I would say my overall average ends up being 1700 lines per day.

My pay is still nowhere near what it used to be. Also I have noticed that I am making more corrections per line so it is harder to make any lines.

Sigh. That line count is still minimum wage for my state. - dnr

Also, my state is expensive to live in. I am surviving because I moved in with a roommate and exchange rent for cleaning the house and other tasks that free up my roommate's time to do what she would rather do.

If we could ALL average 1900 to 2000 lines per - day being paid a *minimum* of 5cpl

[ In Reply To ..]
then it wouldn't be so bad. I know MM will pay more than 4cpl, but they start everyone off at 4cpl.

I really think they should start everyone at no less than 5cpl. At least they are'nt like Nuance where EVERYONE makes 0.0413 cents a line no matter what.

Yeah and if we could go back to typing 1900 lines - per day and making 10 cpl

[ In Reply To ..]
.... sorry, just dreaming.

Tier 3 and still do not make 5 cpl - mom2huskies

I agree they should start us at a higher rate and give us a decent yearly raise.

The only way I could make anything above minimum wage is - dnr

to retype the document. And that is without using F11 and just doing it for the ASR pittance pay. Unfortunately, that might mess up what little ASR gets right. Every once in a while I do a retype just to save my sanity. Looking at the screen with the intensity I need for ASR is murder. Also, what slows me down is I have no ongoing continuity of thought like I do with typing to keep track of what the doctor is dictating and what direction the doctor is taking. ASR is just too stop, focus on the change and start which causes loss of train of thought.

I have been doing ASR since the first day it rolled out - and I average 1200 a day.

I am just jealous you are just now having to do it :)

yea, how is that even right. I got forced into it - in 2007...

Thats 5 years of crap pay and if I had been straight typing all those 5 years, I would have a pretty nice bank account right now.

This company pisses me off.

AND I used to actually type at least 1600 a day. - Makes

me miserable thinking about it -- that I typed more than I can edit on this ASR platform and make a fraction of my former earnings.

welcome to our world - slave wages

won't you come on in? I used to transcribe 1600-2000 a day; now I can't get this SR past 1100-1200.

Sorry for your bad luck, but makes me feel a little - better it is not JUST ME

Used to could type like the wind. Can't do jack on ASR line count.
