Unplanned pregnancies - anonymous

Posted: Sep 17, 2010

Was using the previous report look-up.  The patient was on "Phenergan birth control pills."  This was the previous REAL report that was submitted and apparently signed off on --- not ASR.  Good grief.

I think it takes 2 years to actually really know what your typing (some obviously learn faster). The in-house experience with coworkers to help listen is invaluable. School can't teach you everything and hiring newbies right out of school to save some money is just asking for it. Greed over quality right? They'll find this out the hard way when they have no more customers.

A new MT (or any MT) who does not know what a drug is for, is supposed to look it up. If that MT had looked up Phenergan, a light would have gone off.

There is no shame in not knowing. There is shame in not researching things when you don't know.

My other thought here was perhaps a comma was missing, which does still make this big error. Phenergan, birth control pills...

Been doing this for decades and I still look up - dumbdumb

I still look things up, too, afer 11+ years in the business. If I've never heard of the drug, I look it up for its indications.

I didn't have in-house. Though I think in-house is good, it can't teach basic common sense.

Problem is there are no more jobs - in-house.

Serious question... I transcribe for a hospital/account that is in a different state than where I live. I get so upset sometimes at the types of reports that I get. Usually I transcribe/edit them and move on and they all blend together and I forget at the end of the day who/what I typed. Which is a good thing. However, some reports about OB especially really bother me, basically unwanted or unplanned babies being born into bad social situations. My question is can I contact this hospital or m ...
