This waiting on work is crazy. You almost have to babysit the computer or - PAMT
Posted: Jul 10, 2013you miss out on anything coming in. I hate this. Not sure what to do when waiting for work.
I use my other computer to - sell on eBay during the lull

other than needing the insurance, I'd rather do eBay.
Insurance . . . - H

I think that's great that you're making money on ebay while there's no work. Heck, it's MM's fault that there's NJA, so why not?
and this, my friend, is how you play the game - winning

don't complain because work isn't like it use to be. Change your life, do something different. I also do Ebay and used to be in direct sales. Personally I don't have a problem with running out of work as i am in acquisitions but I can understand how it can be frustrating. Rather than staying frustrated direct your energy elsewhere. Life doesn't have to be a 40 hour work week. I pick from Goodwill and other thrift stores and Ebay, do pretty good at it too!
What to do while waiting - Alice

I saw a large rag quilt on eBay in May that sold for $800 with free shipping. It was handmade, but there were only a few details provided. The seller didn't state the exact size or the type of fabrics used. Actually, the description only stated that it was handmade and would offer quick shipping--that was it! There was one photo included. I've made several rag quilts and given them away. Looks like I need to set up my sewing machine next to the computer and get to work, huh?
Alice, Absolutely! - If I had a talent like that

I would be sewing & selling! I sell jewelry, flower planters, and old books on eBay. I find them at yard sales, Goodwill, etc. It's crazy what people will buy! I make grocery money & enough to buy more stock. Better than sitting here getting angry about NJA!

I agree with that! I especially like the "free 50 listings per month" and other times when they offer "free" listings, so we can't lose if we don't have to pay anthing if our item doesn't sell.
I understand that there are some buyers on eBay who just buy for the thrill of it, and never use the items they buy!!
Plus, you never know how it will go. Something that you think isn't all that valuable may sell for a bundle. I've been surprised many times. I once sold 2.5 yards of a child-theme fabric that I had had in my "stash" for over 10 years. It sold for $129. I probably paid less than $15 for it originally.
it is crazy - I cant take it anymore

It is entitled OOW Steps. Talks about manually entering work availability on timesheet and submitting a Remedy ticket. The last item in red says Do not keep checking for work.
But you are right she could have made it herself I guess. I thought it was company wide. I am in ACQ. We don't have a problem running out, generally speaking.
Interesting, and worrying policy... - nahbmm

We haven't received anything like that diagram in our group. I am very curious and worried about this "don't keep checking for work" statement because I don't think that is fair. First shift are often going to get 15 minutes of no work early in the day and how can that be right that they must then automatically lose out on a whole day's pay?
Can I ask if on that diagram the "don't keep checking for work" thing specifically relates to when you have requested the rest of your shift off? The NJA policy email I received states we must add 15 minutes of work availability pay and put in a Remedy ticket, but it does not state we MUST then take the rest of the day off. And indeed when putting in the Remedy ticket you can choose either the make up time option or to take the rest of the shift off.
I wonder if, like you said, that diagram represents your own TSM's interpretation of the rules. I wish MM's admin policies were a little clearer, instead of dribs and drabs via occasional emails!
here is an email verbatim - x

This is copy/pasted from my TSM email
Work Availability ΓΆ€“
Please note: If you run out of work and file work availability, you are released from the rest of your shift. You should not keep checking back for work. You will need to arrange either using PTO, excused absence no work, or making up your time at a schedule time that is approved.
Interesting, thanks... - nahbmm
[ In Reply To ..]
I guess that is reasonable, if you are free to "pays your money and takes your choice" and decide whether or not to claim that 15 minutes of work availability. I don't think it would be fair, though, if you are required to claim work availability and take the day off as soon as you encounter 15 minutes of no work. I imagine that would leave 1st shifters in most regions utterly destitute!
On my team, we're expected to check back... - sm

for work, so that's what I do. Otherwise, I'd only get about 15 hours a week in, at best.
Same here, check back later in the day - JustMe
[ In Reply To ..]
After the 15-minute NJA, we're told that we if choose to make those hours up, we should wait until later in the morning/afternoon when volumes are higher but we have until Saturday night at midnight to get our hours in.
That is unfair. If work just trickling in... - nahbmm
[ In Reply To ..]
At a rate of say every 14 minutes, she would not have the opportunity to claim the rest of the day off for NJA.
Also, I do not believe we are OBLIGATED to take the entire rest of the shift off if we are faced with one 15-minute no-work interval. Can you imagine the ramifications for first shift who clock in at 8? Often work does not start rolling in until 9 or so. Are you seriously saying that they should forfeit a whole week's wages if there is no work from 8-8:15 for several days in a row? When you fill out the Remedy ticket you have the choice of electing to either take the rest of your shift off, or selecting make-up time.
My shift starts at 9 central so I don't tend to run out of work - maybe you could adjust your schedule?
[ In Reply To ..]
I think too may people expect 8-5 in a 24 hour world.
Maybe at one point - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe at one point there was more work, but over the past few months (since I changed some of my shift to accommodate them), I've ran out of work at all times of day. Frankly, I'm done with working all hours of the day. Unemployment for me. There was a time, I worked 29 days in a month, but no more. Granted, unemployment doesn't pay much, but somewhat less stressful until I'm finished with my degree.
Sure, she could do, but... - nahbmm

Some people will always be needed to be on 1st shift to cover stats, but yet they get the short end of the stick with workflow most of the time. Personally I am on 2nd shift and don't run out often, but I feel sorry for 1st shifters.
that doesn't make sense - if I choose make up time
[ In Reply To ..]
If I choose make up time, and I always do, why can't I make it up later on the same day? When do you think I'm supposed to make it up? Because it's going to be the same situation tomorrow.
not the same day the same SHIFT - if you work till 2 you can start back at 2:01

This NP Is Making Me Crazy!!! Nov 21, 2010Honest to Pete, this woman has no clue about pronunciation.
