Spot Awards. What is the point if they deduct and tax - the amount from your pay.

Posted: May 15, 2013

In fact, they don't just deduct the $10, but $13 (I think I remember reading the $3 is the "upcost" for mailing, etc.).  What is the point of even giving these if we're funding and paying for them ourselves?   It seems to me a TSMs job of "awarding" us a spot reward for which we are actually paying for ourselves could be better spent on other job duties, maybe like checking and answering their email?  LOL what is wrong with this picture?

Bad enough they tax the $10. But you say they deduct the` - $10 from your pay?? nm

Noticed same thing. It is deducted under $13 - prize. Seriously MModal?

[ In Reply To ..]
They need to rename it the Spot Deduction program. Ridiculous.

Betcha the winners never check their paychecks. Probably - dont know this happened. nm

I received one previously and didnt have $13 taken out - whatcha talking about
[ In Reply To ..]
I have no clue what you all are talking about.
Look under your year-to-date deductions. It is there. - "award" was received several payperiods ago.
[ In Reply To ..]
Unbelievable.

Bet this "tax" goes right into their pockets - nm

$10 award? NO. $3 deduction. - nm

I have no clue where you are seeing a $3 deduction - I dont show that

[ In Reply To ..]
All I have is 10.00 listed

But you are showing the $10 as a deduction? - nm

[ In Reply To ..]

This is a lie by omission. Omitting telling us the truth - of the *award*. nm

[ In Reply To ..]
x

How long do ya think they will keep robbing us of $3 when - word gets out. Betcha award end then. nm

[ In Reply To ..]

Ya know, it is kinda clever in an evil way that they figured - this out.

[ In Reply To ..]

Should have known better than to trust them - What a racket

[ In Reply To ..]
They bought the cards in bulk and you know they did not pay $10 for each of them, then charged their "winners" a $3 handling fee AND made the winners pay all taxes. The company came out ahead thousands of dollars by stealing $3 from each winner and giving them gift cards that were neither asked for nor appreciated. Evil is right. In a mobster Bernie Madoff Enron sort of evil.

I did not get $3 deducted or taxed on $10. - I just got deducted the entire $10!

[ In Reply To ..]
Beyond pissed.

Another reason why you need to check your paychecks & know - what/how you are getting paid. nm

Where would you have read about the upcost? - I want to check out MM info about this. nm

Curious why all the awards given out recently - Using them up or what

[ In Reply To ..]
Amy did say that each TSM was given a certain amount to distribute last year on the All Hands Call. Did they just not give any out all year and realized they had a stack sitting on their desk so did a mass mailing? Just imagine how much they are going to tax the MT week winnings.

I wish I would get one. I want verifiable, hard copy proof - that this is going on. nm

[ In Reply To ..]

It is actually in your earnings and deductions - so it cancels itself out. NM

[ In Reply To ..]
x

Explain, please. - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
.

Look in you pay earnings - Taxable prize

[ In Reply To ..]
It's under taxable prize under Earnings. They just cancel themselves out. Probably for book keeping or legal purposes. You can put down your pitchforks for this particular presumed atrocity.
I understand what you are saying. But really! Outside of MT - I was never taxed on award money or bonuses. nm

It's against the law not to - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
It's an income and legally should be taxed such as winning the lottery.

How Much Do They Deduct?
Sep 11, 2014

I'm wondering how much they deduct from your paycheck if you enroll in their Nuance health benefits? Let's say you ordinarily make $1,400/month. IC Deduct On Taxes For Health Insurance Premiums
Dec 04, 2009

I saw on an old post about IC stating they have been able to deduct the cost of their health insurance premiums on their taxes. Is this only if you pay for a private policy not offered by an employer or something? Seems too good to be true. My husband has our health insurance through his employer, so I would assume that would not be a deduction for us? I am just trying to find enough deductions to make IC status worthwhile this year; it is my first year. Also, I have heard different stories abo ...

Now, before anyone flames away, I was hired by the Q several months ago as a tier 3.  I pull my weight, work my shift, and don't have too much to complain about except for NJA from time to time. When I was hired, they asked me specifically what specialties I like the most and what I like the least.  I was told that if there was a specialty that I really disliked or didn't have as much experience ...

Where The Finger Should Point
Jul 20, 2011

So much ire and angst pointed at MTSOs.  I even read where the TAT is a marketing ploy :)   It helps to remember that we're all in the same boat and for the same reasons, to support ourselves. What so many of you don't seem to get is that the INSURANCE industry is dictating much of the TAT.  If reports aren't on a chart in xxx time then the facility/physician is dinged financially. If an MTSO doesn't meet TAT, they are dinged financially.  So they a ...

0.5 Point Taken Off For Blanks SM

I just looked at my review for March and I see all these 0.5 deductions for "blank filled in by reviewer."  There are also Valid Blanks that take off no points.   Sorry if this has been asked but did they say they were going to do this?  And if so, when?  Also, I listened to these blanks.  There is no way they can tell me 100% what was said in any of them, which is why I blanked them.  So they are guessing.  Two reports I have gone through so far are for real ...
