January 26 is Republic Day in India. It is one of their most important events/holidays in India.

It is kind of like our 4th of July. It is the anniversary when they became a republic. They will be dancing in the streets, eating tons of Chaat and drinking lassi until the cows come home (literally), I guess. (I have an Indian friend who tells me these things.)

Maybe we will have some extra work. Some of them will be working, but not all I would imagine.

Whoo. Hooo. Gonna get me an extra 5 bucks that day!!!!!!

Glad to hear someone in the world has something to celebrate.

Yes, I am thankful for what I do have.

BUT--no, I am not happy that my old butt is dragging through school now because I know this career is shot in the rear. I thought I could retire from this job. But ooooh nooo. Forget that.

School is different at my age this time around. But at this point, with all that is going on at MQ, I can't wait to move on.

I don't think I will make it until next year, though. I think most of our jobs will be done by the end of the year, what with Cbay taking 80% and SPi taking the rest. (Isn't SPi in agreement to be transcribing 10 million lines a month by the end of 2010? Whoever posted that link a couple months ago, please re-post. It was in an Indian Newspaper I think.)

Not much work will be left for us.

You're not kidding about school being different. I feel like a dinosaur in my classes and cannot comfortably engage in conversations with these kids! (vulgar, promiscuous (sp),crazy, selfish, self absorbed...)

I feel so old and weird. I'm gonna trudge on tho, I cannot keep working in this industry. I do not want to be living with my kids because I HAVE TO. Its bad enough I've already had ask them for a loan... THAT's rock bottom.

So what are you both majoring in? Is the school a community college? Do you attend classes and/or on-line? Last question! Are you in a liberal state or do these kids all act this way now in school! I have a feeling I know the answer to my own question, but wondered what you thought!

CONGRATS TO BOTH OF YOU! I hope to attend some classes this summer and then go full time next fall to a community college. I already to college for medical transcription, but I need to do something else. My husband wants me to go to University of Phoenix which is all over the United States, not just in Phoenix.

I am at a university. I started at a CC, but did not like the one in the city where I am at. I am majoring in cultural/culinary anthropology! It is a challenge, but it is NOT HARD! The kids, I think... well, they're just YOUNG. I don't think I was ever as wild as some of them are, but I'm sure I got my share of the rolled eyes when I was a pup!

I'm only in my second year, 1 1/2 more to go. My advise is GO FOR IT! Free-speaking young people aside, it is such a great feeling to be in a class room, getting your mind challenged and doing class assignments and doing them well. It is so rewarding.

Good for you!! Honestly, 1-1/2 years will fly by fast. May not seem like it now, but I know it will. My husband went back to school himself and he has just one more class to go and will graduate!!! Yippe!!! It just seems like yesterday when he started college and that was 2-1/2 years ago.

I assume that the MT companies set up a contract with the client for them to pay on a per-line basis. Of course, they charge more than they pay us; that's how they make their money & that's fine. But what I'm wondering is... when we get a report that comes in as VR instead of straight typing, where does the extra money go, since we get paid less for VR. When I get partial dictation reports on EditScript where you don't have to do anything in regards to header/demographics, my speed in terms of lines per hour is almost twice as fast. When there are so many new worktypes with new MT Instructions, the speed goes way down. When the header shows no medical record number and I have to enter in demographics what speaker dictates, the speed goes way down.
