Installing 6.1 on Win7 - derp

Posted: Sep 12, 2010

You can install DQS 6.1 on Win7, if that is all you have.  Note that you can't install 6.1 on a 64bit version of Windows 7.

The way to get it to work is you MUST do the install as an "elevated" rights user.  Since you install via IE, that means you must run IE elevated.  The way to do this is to, if you are in the Start menu, right click and select "Run as Administrator".  If you have IE pinned to your taskbar, press [SHIFT] + [CTRL] and mouse-click the IE icon.  You'll know if you have started it if you see the dialog named "User Access Control" and the screen goes dark.

If you don't install using the Admin rights, it won't work, period.

If you have already installed DQS as a nonadmin, uninstall it before trying to reinstall it.

Key word is WIN7/VISTA 64 - sm

If you have WIN7/Vista 64 bit, by now you are most likely aware how to do the upgrades running IE as adminstrator, as this was necessary with previous versions of DQS. Incredibly, DQS 6.1 is not compatible with 64 bit operating systems period. Apparently, Support has no intention of making a version capable of running on anything other than an outdated operating system.

32bit OS's I wouldn't call "outdated."

In any respect, support for 64bit OS versions is in 6.2.

You _can_ run 6.1 on a 64bit machine. In the install folder of DQS you will see a file called "DocQscribe.exe". Don't run that one. Run "editor.exe". This will allow you to run 6.1 until the fix has been released for this particular issue. Unless you are running a 64bit version, you shouldn't do this.

I am not finding an "install folder." The only install folder I have is "Dosqscribe install/creator" and I can't find a DocQscribe.exe in that. Am I looking in the correct place?
The install folder is... - derp

Hmm... can't find it. Will have to look more tomorrow after having some sleep. Thanks.

can you be more specific - sm

DQS contains 3 editor folders and 2 editor files. I see editor.exe.config file, but that's it.
OHHHH... I see what's going on (stupid Windows..) - derp

Windows by default has a setting called "Hide extensions of known file types." So it is hiding the ".exe" part of editor.exe. Every time I've ever gotten a new machine, it is one of the first things I disable, so it didn't occur to me that you might not see the file name.

So, for you all that have this setting turned on, it will just say "editor".

by "hiding" the .exe files whether we like it or not.

Hmm.. I used to use Windows 7 with the old version with using run as administrator from the 32-bit Internet Explorer. I have a 64-bit computer, but 32-bit Internet Explorer also. This used to work, but now since the upgrade I can't get it to work. Do you have strictly a 32-bit computer?

IE 32 or 64 is not the issue. It is whether or not you are running a WIN7/Vista 64 bit OPERATING SYSTEM. Check you computer specifications to see which you have (32 or 64), as most WIN7/Vista 64 bit systems come with BOTH IE 32 AND 64 bit versions.

Yes, I know - nan

I know, that is what I was telling you. I used to be able to do that, but it does not work that way since the upgrade. Not on my computer anyway. Again, the IE on 32 bit, run as administrator, screen going dark, does not work anymore since upgrade to 6.1. It goes dark, loads IE, I do what I normally did by loading DQS through there and it will not load.

How Do You Prevent IE 10 From Installing?
Apr 30, 2013

Internet Explorer 10 just automatically installed itself and deleted my other IE browser.  I have system restored back before the update, and I have gone in and told the updater not to update automatically, so I am good for now, but I have done this before and have done even more to avoid IE updates, and here I am having to uninstall again.  I worked with tech support to attempt to avoid having IE updates install, but apparently that did not work this time or has been someho ...

Question About Installing Extra Memory
Mar 17, 2012

Has anyone ever installed a memory stick into their computer?  I need to install an extra GB of memory into my computer for a new position and, to say the least, I'm most definitely not tech savvy.  Is it easy to do? Can you just purchase the memory stick at RadioShack or some place like that? Is it possible to damage your computer installing it? Many thanks to anyone who give me some tips on this...I realize it's probably a very simple procedure but the thought of opening ...
