Editing MM ASR is like shooting yourself in the foot quality-wise. - dnr

Posted: Jun 07, 2015

I straight typed the entire history and assessment of an ASR report and edited the rest. Then, I took a glance at it. No problem with the straight-typed portion, but there were some niddly little brain error mistakes in the edited portion. Grrrr.... Like stray "a", "the" present or absent comma. I this zombie state inducing editing. I have noticed a ton of brain error mistakes when I have looked at prior patient reports. Sure, they can stick out like a sore thumb at times, but that is only when you haven't been turned into a zombie. The last report of my shift yesterday could have definitely flunked me if I hadn't noticed that I had become so brain dead.

I know its crazy - sm

And...sometimes I catch them on a re-read but not always. When I straight type, I tend to remember everything I have typed so the proofing is easier and way more accurate as well. ASR, I tend to simply go off into brain dead land and remain there my entire shift. I hate it!!! I have to wonder if other companies ASR is any better. Oh and for what you did, I would have saved it to an expansion file and F11'd it if it was that much typing.

Certain doctors I don't even bother editing as it is 2000x easier to straight them. - dnr

The doctors who stutter, repeat what they said many times before they finally complete a sentence, etc.

I have now started retyping medication lists if I see more than one is gibberish, and that is so much faster! Some of the labs too. Liver function tests are often really a mess.

I should probably just quit editing a certain doctor's PE and use my own standard for her PE. ASR has had YEARS to learn her PE, which is the same 95% of the time.

Am I Missing Something, Grammar-wise?
May 30, 2012

It seems like lately, I've been seeing people use what I thought was incorrect grammar so many places that I'm starting to question whether I'm the one who has it wrong.  Would appreciate your help!   The usage I'm referring to is when people say "So-And-So" and themselves as an object or an object of a preposition.  The latest example I saw was in a flier that came in our newspaper from a local chiropractor: "....my father told my brothers and I about how he ...

Had To Repost This Great Post From A Wise MT :)
Jan 02, 2011

"Had mandatory conference call with HR recently. Heard they are a growing company. Don't doubt it. Hospitals must love the instant TAT and low cost of Transcend. It means heck for us. Same as Walmart-- you appreciate low prices and availability, don't realize that the companies have to supply goods to Walmart at rock-bottom prices just to survive. Walmart is Transcend, Walmart shoppers are the hospitals looking for a good deal, the brand-name companies are us-- forced to supply at low, ...

Looking To Speed Things Up Some Production Wise
Mar 31, 2013

Hi. I am looking to speed things up some production wise. I have SH as my expander & I am working actively to build my dictionaries to include more phrases. My question is what is a faster way to insert the physician "templates" I have built. Currently I insert them into my documents using my expander but that can be slow for some of the longer ones (like H&P's). Reports are typed in Word 2007. I have been wondering about using macros but it has been YEARS since I have used macros. Looking ...

Word To The Wise - If Your Work Starts To Trickle Down
Sep 19, 2014

You'd better be looking very quickly for a new job, because you may all of a sudden find yourself locked out of the system with no warning, no inkling of what's going on at all, no idea there is or was any sort of problem, nothing. No matter how nice you think your MTSO or manager is,  open your eyes if you notice anything amiss at all and do it fast.  Don't keep all your eggs in one basket,  I'm very glad I didn't.   If at all possible, pleas ...

New Quality Index Vs Old Quality Score
Oct 18, 2014

I ran an error report for all reports, all accounts on my platform for this quarter, 10/1 - 10/18. So far the Quality Index is 84% vs Quality Score 99.18%.  Didn't they advertise this new error scoring as working out in our favor?  Doesn't look like it to me. This is based on 2194 jobs and 105,358 lines audited on E5.  I checked the box that says view all corrections on the correction report. ...

From Below, About 99% Quality
May 22, 2011

slowly sinking here because my quality has always been 98-100 quality, years and years. Now, however, I am expected to maintain 99% quality, on a hideously difficult account, but I must also maintain my LPH. In other words, I have to listen to reports on the fastest speed I can to get my LPH yet maintain some form of quality. The reports go to QA who in turn listen at the slowest possible speed to give errors for not including 'the' and mind you this cannot even be heard unless you ...

DQS 7 Quality
Jun 13, 2012

What is everyone's opinion about the new speech engine?  I'm not talking about the user side....I mean the quality of it's speech recognition.  I thought it was supposed to be so much better, but I'm finding it to be terrible.  There are times when it leaves out 3 and 4 words and puts in words that are not even close (i.e., family history when the doc clearly says social history)!  That, and the sound quality SUCKS! Here's another example:  Dic ...

Editing Pay
Jun 05, 2010

I understand that everything is going to the way of the editor and not typing, but when the editor keeps missing whole sentences or makes up words that sound nothing like the doctor is saying, how is one supposed to make any money?  I only get paid .04 per line to edit and I am spening more time trying to fix editing mistakes than I would if I just erase the text and type it out.  Very frustrating.  Thank God my husband has a good paying job, otherwise I would have to find another ...

Is All Editing With VR Really This Bad?
Oct 28, 2010

I work for a company that uses M*Modal for VR and all the reports have SO much editing.  There are complete words missing, words added that clearly aren't being dictated, at least 2 words on each line that have to be edited.  I'm doing so much more work for less pay than I was straight typing everything.  This is the only editing I've done so I don't know if this is normal for editing or if M*Modal just sucks!  My line counts suck, my pay sucks.  Any ...
