Continued OT - Dr Pepper

Posted: Mar 19, 2015

Eat healthy and drink plenty of water - I can't because I have "mandatory" OT that doesn't allow me enough time to cook for my family so we have to get take out and I have to eat at my desk and if I drink too much water I'll have to use the restroom which will cut into my inactive time and add to the OT.

Go to bed early and get a good nights sleep - I can't because I have "mandatory" OT so I have to work late because of NJA and still have "mandatory" OT to do each day.

Spend time with your family - I can't because I have "mandatory" OT and while they are in school or at work I run out of jobs so I have to make up that time the same day plus do the "mandatory" OT.

Stay active and exercise - I can't because I have "mandatory" OT.

Reduce the stress in your life to feel good physically and psychologically - I can't...

I wonder why some teams have mandatory OT and others have NJA, could it be because of POOR management. I wish they would let us work and make a decent wage. I bet the higher ups have no problem sleeping at night.

Oh come one, 1 hour a day is not that debilitating - MTMoxie

If they were asking for several hours a day, I could agree with you, but I typically work at least 2 if not more, and still feed my family, hit the treadmill for 30 minutes, and get to bed at a decent time. Seriously, 1 hour is not as debilitating to life as you try to make it out to be.

Hey Moxie - sh

I type 10-hour shifts and am old as the hills, so 1 hour extra puts me in wrist splints day and night, makes my feet swell so bad I can't get into my shoes, and I can barely bend my fingers by the end of my shift. Just sayin...

and you are still alive... - MTMoxie

For the record, I often work 12-14 hour days when we have unlimited OT. I am also old, and my feet also swell by the end of the day, but if it is only required occasionally you can live through it.

I don't believe the poster I originally responded to works a 10-hour shift, so I stand by everything I said. It is entirely possible to work 9 hours a day and still do all the things the poster said she couldn't do. That still leaves 15 hours. You can still sleep 8 and have another 7 hours for everything else.

I just don't understand all this whining over a measly 1 hour a day for a week or 2.
you don't - understand

you made that part clear. so why enter into a discussion of which you clearly have no understanding, nor apparently have any desire to even try to empathize with others who are suffering. you do seem to be suffering, but it seems to be from that "i think i'm so special" disease i see going around.
And you apparently can't read - MTMoxie

I understand completely. You must not have read my post. I've been here in the trenches for 12 years. I "suffer" along with everyone else, I just choose to not be a victim and try to make the best of the situation. I am no more special than anyone else, but a good attitude can go along way towards a person's mental health.

Moxie, you have a positive attitude, it should take you far. Thanks for your input. I'm always happy to learn something new.

I opted out of the OT edict and am more than happy to leave the OT to you and individuals who want and need the extra money. I come to work on time every day, never take sick days or vacations, do the absolute best job I can with the awful that comes into my que and hope that satisfies MM.

As for my original post, I was simply trying to open your eyes to the fact that your's is not the only opinion on the subject, but that didn't work out very well.

I am glad you are enjoying your time as an MT and I hope it keeps going well for you for many, many years to come.

Take care Moxie.

so to those who haven't been here long or have been with other companies, it looks like we are whiners or slammers or glass half-emptiers or whatever the phrase o' the day is. And it's not just that "oh, well, it's industry wide, so working here is in line with everyone else." No, it's because MQ/M*Moral led the way with the paycuts & bonus cuts, differential cuts, every other little trick their attorneys came up with that the other nationals and MTSOs followed ...

Whether you are "making it" at MQ (and for the life of me I don't know how), that really isn't the issue.  MQ is treating his MTs like slaves and for a pittance.  They degrade you, monitor you, have supervisors who are tyrants, unnecessary meetings, more hoops than you can throw a stick at and guess what, they are going to send everything over to India.  There are not enough qualified MTs any longer to support these huge companies; just look at Spheris.  The higher ...
