Do you mean straight typing or editing? and is this - the awful 4 cent per line?

Are the reports very, very short?

Hard to make living - JustMe

I hear ya. I make 3 cpl and I'm getting nowhere fast! And they want more and more done every day.

I'm with you. I have had it! - MT24

I am with you about this.
This is killing me. I am self-supporting. I just took this job earlier this year and this 4 cpl ASR which really means decipher bad dictators after deleting the ASR and typing for 4cpl scam that it is. Ugh. Sympathies!

Straight typing but a doctor who hims and haws - a 9 minute report earned me .37

[ In Reply To ..]
and it is not the 4-cent a line company but a horrid 6 cents; 25+ years of transcription and I am living at a poverty level right now

There must have been a lot of dead air on - that one. I would

probably up my speed on the dictation to get to when they actually say something. That's only what 6-7 lines for a 9 minute report?

Six cents a line is pretty low. I would definitely be looking for another company.

TIME TO START DEMANDING WHAT WE MTS ARE WORTH - Lenie

[ In Reply To ..]
ALL MTS, PLEASE LISTEN

Stop this subordination to these stupid companies! Making pennies per line and staying at poverty level for our expertise is just ridiculous!

WE DECIDE WHAT WE ARE WORTH - NOT THEM!

STOP WORKING VR AT 3-4 CENTS PER LINE - DEMAND 5-6 CENTS PER LINE FOR VR EDITING! IF YOU ACCEPT ANYTHING LESS, YOU ARE PERPETUATING THEIR INSANITY BY ACCEPTING PAYMENT THAT IS BENEATH YOU.

MANY OF US WHO HAVE BEEN AT MT FOR 5-10-20+ YEARS FIND THEIR PAYMENT FOR OUR SERVICES INSULTING.

SOOO....START REFUSING TO WORK VR EDITING FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN 5 TO 6 CENTS PER LINE.

THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS.

IF WE ALL REFUSE TO WORK AT VR EDITING THEY ARE SHOVING DOWN OUR THROATS FOR LESS THAN 5 CENTS PER LINE, WHO WILL THEY GET TO DO IT? (Newbies fresh out of MT training or high school, and they will GET WHAT THEY PAY FOR.)

(Remember the attempts at shipping all MT work overseas? Fell like a lead balloon - work came back so terrible in quality they had to re-do everything, which was more expensive than if they had paid us MTs what they should have to begin with!)

ANYBODY WITH ME? ANY COMMENTS?

PLEASE RESPOND.

...UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL...

Absolutely - with you, Lenie

[ In Reply To ..]
Also, outright work stoppage. I don't care what you call it. We all stop working until we are paid what we are worth. May 1, 2012, call in sick or not, schedule the day off, and the next day and the next day.

I'm There for May 1st - Lenie

Really, if everyone did this...what could they do?

THEY ALREADY GET WHAT THEY PAY FOR - THEY HAVE INDIA

[ In Reply To ..]
GROW UP. You cannot force these companies to pay you more. They will just send more work overseas. Have you forgotten that they make 1-2 cpl? You are totally replaceable and they dont care about quality anymore. WE ARE A THING OF THE PAST.... GET USED TO IT.

I earned $50 and felt lucky to earn that, but - sm

How Could I Have Earned So Little This Pay Period!!!

Earned Time Pay
Dec 26, 2011

Is it customary to get paid a flat rate for earned time/vacation pay? I make on average $20-$25 per hour based on my line count but when I request earned time I am paid $12 per hour. When I first started with this company several years ago, their written policy which I was given had a complex system in which they figured out your earned time rate for a particular week by averaging the last four weeks...... That certainly has never been the way I have been paid for any earned time I have taken wi ...

ANYONE EVER GET PAID PER TYPED PAGE??

Question For MTs Who Typed On Typewriters
Feb 07, 2014

I am asking this just out of curiosity.  If you type on a typewriter way back when, what did you do when they asked you to go back and add something or when you got to the end and they said, "Cancel this dictation?"  How in the world did you stay productive when you simply couldn't delete something or add lines and reformat easily?  My hats off to you all...must have been difficult to learn something new, but computer typing versus the typewriter, it's got to be better n ...
