Spyware? - Morgan

Posted: Aug 08, 2012

While transcribing if my PC starts to lock up or slow down to a crawl, I find this program running in Task Manager: "AHSTIUMonitor" and I'm using 100% of my memory. I have to shut everything down and reboot. I have no files on my PC by this name, or anything like it and a Google search brings up zero hits. Anyone else?

Is your computer a company-owned machine? If so, it is very possible that they have put some sort of tracking software on it in which case you may need to go back to the company and tell them that their POS tracking software is impeding your production.

The next time it does it, when you are in Task Manager, right click on that item and then click on "end process tree." You'll get a task manager warning about whether you really want to do that or not. Say yes, and then see what happens. I did this successfully when I had something weird in one of my svchost.exe files doing something similar and running my CPU fan like crazy.

If you don't want to go that route, download Spybot and/or Malware Bytes if you don't already have them and run both of those programs and see if anything comes up.

If Spybot and Malware Bytes don't find anything and it still does it, you might look at something like ComboFix or TDSSKiller which I have used to get rid of a couple of nasty malware issues that got downloaded by accident.

Good luck.

Thanks Robin! - Morgan

I did a search, as well, leaving off the "monitor" part and found this. If this is who you work for...it may explain a lot.

Thanks - That identified it. Not spyware. I appreciate your searching! - Morgan

My puter locks-up or slows down to a crawl constantly!! Its gotten so bad the technies downloaded spyware and malware programs. I hafta run the spyware twice a day, malware once a week. Why am I not surprised we are paid by production and yet have a slow "processing board"???? Makes total sense, does it not?

Same here. PC is rendered next-to-useless while - transcription files are open. (sm)

Company keeps telling me to just "buy a new computer". Uh-huh. Right.
At a garage sale, perhaps?

I Caught My Company's Spyware In The Act.
Jul 24, 2012

I'm not going to identify the company (let's face it - they ALL have spyware these days) or how I did it, because I don't want to be identified.  This is a company that requires you to have an instant message feature turned on the entire time you're working.  I turn it off when I'm off the clock.  HOWEVER, the other day, when I was not logged in to work, I was doing some shopping online.  When I was finished comparing items, and decided to close the ...
