Pursuing Something Else? - Searching

Posted: Aug 22, 2010

Was just curious how many on here are or have trained for a different profession.  If so, what are you doing -- coding?  nursing?

All of this talk about "going back to school," but FOR WHAT?  Someone please name a sector of our economy that hasn't been DESTROYED!  We can't all become hairdressers and nail technicians.  Oh, and don't even start about "green jobs," that is such a tiny number of jobs it's laughable, plus I doubt many here will become solar panel installers.  !!

I will be limited to teaching in Floorida but I am starting a program called "EPI" in March. The only requirement is having a BS or BA degree. The cost is $2500K. The program is online except for a few hours of practicum. I have to finish my BS degree this semester. I can't see myself working outside the home. Maybe I can find a job with one of the virtual schools like K12 or supplement my income with a tutoring business. I think nursing or rad tech would be better but those programs are not realistic for me right now.

Thinking about becoming a teacher's aide. - sm

I had quit MT many years ago, but came back to it after having my son because of the fact I could work at home and not have to put him in daycare. Now he has started school, but I still want to be there for him when he comes home and has vacation breaks. The schools here have a ton of openings for teachers' aides and the starting salaries are comparable to what I am making as an MT, plus I would get all the school breaks, which are basically paid since your salary is divided over 12 months. Since it is a state job, they also offer a great benefits package including 21 vacation days and 21 sick days, which I don't currently get. I can't remember the last time I took a vacation, so that would be a huge plus for me. :)

I would LOVE to work for a solar company, even if - it were installing panels. nm

Considering Pursuing MT Certification
Dec 13, 2010

Hello, I am looking for some input. I have been a veterinary technician for several years and am very well versed in medical terminology as I have published and lectured. I am looking for a change and MT appeals to me for many reasons. My main concern is being unable to find a job after completing certification for I have no contacts and have heard of "newbies" having a hard time finding work. Obviously I do not want to spend money only to find no way in afterwards. Does anyone know of progra ...

Recruiter Really Pursuing Me - Regarding Radiology
Aug 18, 2010

I didn't even apply to your company but for some reason they're all over me, calling and emailing.  I type radiology only; I told the recruiter that.  He insists I need to put in an application and test, but I'm not sure I want to spend the time and of course he refuses to give me any details until I spend it.  I know the Q's reputation is pretty bad - so I'm asking - how are the rad accounts?  And why don't they just advertise for rad MT's ...

Apr 04, 2014

Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field, professional background in management, then 10+ years in medical transcription, new coder.  Interested in future healthcare management.  Would a BSN/nursing degree be desireable?  Or better to pursue a second bachelor's or a Master's in HIM? Or ... other that I have not considered but should? Looking for insight or thoughts.   ...

Anyone Pursuing Finding Work As A "medical Scribe"?
Jun 24, 2012

I've seen reference to this career path from time to time here....wondering if there's anything new to add?   I have a friend who recently went to work as an MT for a doctor's office.  She's typing the minor emergency room notes or same-day surgery notes or something like that.  Their PCPs do their own EHR, but she said the doctors really dislike having to do it, and it reduces the number of patients they can see each day.   As the EHR is implemented mor ...
