Meaning of NM and SM - for those who do not know

Posted: May 09, 2012

I have seen some posts lately that lead me to believe that some people don't know that sm means "some more" (to their post) and nm means "no more" (to their post).  There may be the occasional person who has those initials, but for the most part, that's what they mean.

It leads to confusion when trying to follow a thread, like everyone using anon. or anonymous.

thanks for clearing that up. I thought it meant see message and - no message, nm

.

Well, that's the same thing - as what I said

It's essentially the same meaning, what you said and I what I said. It's just that I get the impression people think it is someone's initials and that person keeps "butting in" all over the board!

No more and no message are NOT the same thing - nm

it does - nm

Actually, - sm and nm as initials makes more sense

to me. Why end a post with "some more" or "no more?" I'm confused!

sm and nm make sense - see message

I use "nm" (no message) to let other participants know that there is nothing more to read; i.e., they don't have to waste time clicking on my post. If I have more to say, I let others know by posting "sm" (see message).

That seems to promote posters with different - sm

monikers and ignoring those who use the "sm" or "nm" monikers.

Part of the reason the "sm" and "nm" posters use those monikers is because they were here before, and all the readers had to do was see the moniker, and they would automatically attack the poster without even reading their posts. It's to ensure that their posts are actually read by people, probably the same people who claim Mitt is great, but come to discover that many of them don't even know Mitt's real name.

I've written posts on here before that actually upheld a conservative idea or two, yet I was still attacked by about the same number of the "usuals," give or take.

I would like myself and my post to be treated with respect, but that doesn't happen once a person who disagrees with the conservatives begins to post, simply because of the poster's moniker belongs to "that same liberal" who's been posting for some time and who represents red meat for the conservatives.

I totally agree. You have to use different - monikers on boards

other than the politics board, b/c the haters from the Politics Board will follow you around the boards and harass you, or just "dislike" your posts even if you're post is as simply as "the sky is blue here today." I've seen it happen with more than one liberal poster here.

Actually nm means no message and sm means - sm

see messages. It always surprises me when people have no clue what these mean.

Wow, just ... wow - Ayn

After reading this whole string of posts, all I can say is some people will argue about absolutely anything, and usually in a rather catty way.

well said - no message, gf
