Can you imagine how satisfying it would be - if every MT in the U.S. - (SM)

Posted: May 18, 2014

decided collectively, at roughly the same time on the same day, to just turn off their computers and WALK AWAY from transcription forever?

Financial difficulties for a while afterward?  Perhaps, but we all have them anyway, no matter how hard we work for these slimeballs.

Not able to use them as a reference?  Pffft!!!  Even with good past references, most employers in other fields don't give a rat's patoot about your experience as an MT.  For all it's worth, it might as well have never existed.  Especially if you're like me, and it's all you've done for the last 35 years.

Having to look for another line of work?  Annoying and inconvenient, but most of us are already pursuing that path out of necessity, even if currently putting in a 60-hour week at an MTSO.

BUT:   The satisfaction of knowing there will be consequences for THEM if they have to suddenly rely 100% on India to do their work?  Hahahahaha....

PRICELESS !!!     Cool

CAN YOU IMAGINE ?? - Pixie

I LOVE THIS POST !!! I have been saying for YEARS...WHAT IF ??? That's exactly what needs to happen. Every single MT across the nation....QUIT FOR 3 DAYS !!! WOW !!!! What an impact !!!! I'll bet there would be ears that would listen and very rapidly a whole lot of issues would be tended to...first at hand.....HOURLY PAY. Second at hand...ALL ESL dictation sent "home" to the Middle East. sent "home

More effective now with VR - Rose

There has always been talk about doing this. When we transcribed, there would be nothing the doctors could to but wait for us to come back. Now, editing would fall into the dictators hands if they want their patients consults forwarded or to discharge their patients. Then they would get the ____ing message the MTSOs have been keeping from them all these years - that humans are providing their perfect reports, we have to make a living and are not able to do so. Media would definitely get involved as this affects the general public. Doctors would be going nuts trying to learn to edit reports, or have their staff tied up trying to do it. It could have worked, risky, but effective.

The problem now is that a huge percentage of us have been through financial devastation already and can't afford to lose another dollar before becoming homeless, if you haven't already. We are also replaceable. There are way too many very experienced, qualified MT/MEs out there needing work. The fraudulent MT schools are still spitting out newbies who would work for any amount. We no longer have the leverage we had a few years ago. Still, I LOVE to imagine!

The way I see it is, we're already going through - financial devastation. I think - sm

a lot of us have gotten pretty darned good at being poor. I know I have. Finding out that I can cope to a certain extent with how little I make, by finding other ways to bring in cash. (That's the operative word, there... cold, hard, non-traceable CASH), losing a crappy job like working for an MTSO just isn't scary, like losing an actual GOOD job would be.

The fact that MT is never going to get any better, and that sooner or later all of us are going to either quit or be laid off due to VR and/or point-&-click, means that the majority of us already are looking for other work. Some of us (myself included) not quite as aggressively or whole-heartedly as we could be. Quitting this toxic field would give us the time, the initiative, and the kick-in-the-rear we need to seek more realistic employment, even if it's only low-paid and temporary, until we find what we've been looking for as we slave away for these crooks.

So, that's why my post said a mass FOREVER walkout, not just a 3-day strike, which could be easily covered by India. I mean a mass decision to desert a sinking ship, which of course is already happening. But we're deserting at different times, in different numbers, for different reasons.

But think about the effect an en-masse, group about-face, where every MT in the US says, "You know what? This just doesn't work anymore, and never will. I'm taking my chances and getting out of here NOW" movement would have.

This is already an industry that's planning our demise. But the way it's going, we're giving them the time frame and money to work with in order to stack the cards in THEIR favor, whether it's shifting all VR-editing to India, or getting out of MT and switching over to coding 100%.

But if they suddenly lost their American MTs - all of them - their cash cow that cover their Indians' butts so dutifully - were all to up and disappear at the same time, they wouldn't be able to have everything go their way, and might have to make some hard choices. I believe that's something they deserve 100%/

Excellent points, and I would love to see it happen! (nm) - Rose

Also been saying this for years on this board and got bullied because of it. I think it is still the best idea. Walk away from those keyboards.

oh here we go again, happens every May. Wait for it... - wait...3....2.....1....

BAM! The ill-fated call for a strike.

By the way - 3 times this stink has been raised and never happened, only to consume this board with hatred and fights and trolls that took advantage of same. It was a real mess. Look back only to learn from the past and walk the OTHER way is my response to this subject more than once long dead.

AND I KNOW SOME OF YOU KNOW WHAT I'M REFERRING TO, WHY BOTHER AGAIN? Things a little too happy for you on this site?

Personally I LOVE_MY_JOB...I woke up and smelled the ROSES.

How very wonderful & special you love your job. - However, the majority of us do not.

Have a sparkly day.

there's the door. I've had rotten jobs, I just can't complain - about something I got into on my own two feet. Sam

Same two feet that got me right out of it and into better. No time for pity party, and whining is bad energy from a bad habit. No one wants to hire that, and no one wants to work with it. I'm going to feel good. I choose to make it better, not worse. So?

Yes, I R a dastardly fiend for loving my life right now, and I DO make the BEST of it - no one's gonna do it for me. And I WILL do anything I can to help myself, thank you very much. Works for me.

You all want to call off or try to stir up a strike, no one will ever notice...except India. And MTSOs would be justified sending your work there. Think about it. Between all the out of work and hurting MTs across our nation and all those sitting around India, transcription is pretty much covered for the next how many years? Can you sit it out that long? Because calling off a day or a week - not even a twitch or an itch.

(by the way, I_love_my_job and Roses was a jab at pot stirrers by pseudo names, not an opinion)

Our Work Is Going Off Shore Faster Than You Can Imagine
Feb 25, 2010

Our work is going off shore faster than you can imagine.  According to posts, I see we are wondering about the lack of work, in many cases for over a year.  We are behind in getting info on this.  Google off-shore transcription or any words that will get you the info.  The information is plentiful.  Many articles state the hospitals are unaware that work is going off shore.  They just dictate, assume it goes to a central system in the states and we sit behind our desks and have so much wor ...
