If AHDI ever manages to take over coding, what do - you think theyll change the name to? sm

There are already 2 professional coding organizations in place.
I wouldn't put it past them to try. Any field where - they can exploit the employee works for them! nm

Irrelevant. I know AHDI feels like the enemy that left MTs holding an empty bag support-wise and perhaps this feels powerful to you, but they have no clout in the coding arena. AHDI is a non-issue on the coding board.
I was thinking the same thing. Why would anyone want to talk about them here - unless they were obsessed against them

I frankly don't care. They don't relate to coding.
What you don't understand is, AHIMA is big/powerful; AHDI is small - sm

They aren't in the same league.
They would probably somehow manage to make them CEs--coding editors - nm

AHDI has nothing to do with coding. I would suggest that you do a bit of research and learn more about the coding profession. AAPC and AHIMA are the coding and health information management organizations who represent coders, both of them very strong. Coding and MT are 2 entirely different things. I don't understand why you are bringing this up except to try and stir the pot.
AAMT/AHDI changed "transcriber" to the ghastly - "-ist" word. Wondered how theyd change "coder".

I don't care what you call the job, because - My income is excellent.

This is at least the second time someone has tried to crank up negative discussion about AHDI "taking over" coding.
Coders are aware that the profession's two most vocal and instrumental support organizations are the AAPC and AHIMA. Both organizations serve a very important role in defining professional expectations, providing supportive resources, and improving career and income potential.
As a coder, I do not want to see others driven away from my profession because of negative, paranoid rumor-mongering.
For those of you who come to this forum seeking information about coding, be aware that it is a positive, interesting profession that is well-respected in the medical community. Because it is critially instrumental in the revenue process, working conditions and salaries are excellent. Both professional organizations seek and ACHIEVE continual advances in the status and responsibilities of coders.
Coders in general are quite happy with the representation they receive from both organizations. They are, in general, quite happy with the return-on-investment they receive from the certifications offered by those organizations. Coders, in general, are happy with their work, their incomes, and the potential for advancement in the field.
I understand that many MTs have bad feelings about their profession and need a place to talk about it, but perhaps this forum isn't that place. Let's keep it focused on discussion of a great profession and the ways that MTs can move into it.

I have a student membership in AAPC and already find it to be a helpful resource. I've been able to network with other local members who work at the same facility where I am presently employed as an MT. I'm looking forward to continuing on with my class and can't wait to start using my new skills. Thanks for setting the record straight, you said it much more eloquently than I could have.

What I Want From AHDI Jun 14, 2012People ask me what I want from AHDI or if it's worth being a member.
I am a member. I ask myself why I still pay my membership dues and what I hope to get in return for that money. That's a tough question. Years ago I learned from their journal. I met lots of great people at conventions and seminars. Then the journal and web site started being more promotional instead of educational or professional. There was always something new that was going to change our lives if we would just sig ...
Thank You AHDI Sep 10, 2013MMODAL for taking my profession of being a skilled worker making a living rate, and turning it into a menial, pull them off the street, minimum wage worker. We are the new gutter rats.

AHDI BOS 3 Oct 10, 2014I recently began a new position where they adhere to the AHDI Book of Style 3 guidelines. Obviously, not having used this version before I was not aware one of the wonderful changes AHDI has made. I understand AHDI exists to set the standards as one of their main objectives. I also was under the assumption that AHDI had been made up primarily of MTs (at least that is who made them to start with) and has grown to include MTSOs.

Hired For Coding/billing/transcription, But Told No Coding Aug 13, 2013Accepted a job, gave 2 weeks notice, and yesterday was my first day. I was to be helping out transcription (1000 jobs behind), and then sitting with billing and training with coding as their coder will be out on maternity leave in December. The office is adding another surgeon, and they are rapidly expanding. So I gave a proper 2 weeks' notice to my former employer (2 hours on the road there and back, low salary - now less than half distance and $3 more an hour) and starte ...
Here Is My Correspondence With AHDI Mar 03, 2010I got this note from a guy named Doggett in response to a note I sent to ADHI about throwing roadblocks in front of MTs to getting work and earning a decent living:

AHDI An Advocate? May 24, 2010I went to the AHDI web site to see if they might actually be an advocate for transcriptionists, who are always at the bottom of the ladder in most companies. AHDI And RMT Exam Dec 05, 2010I will be graduating from TTC's Medical Transcription class soon so I am now wondering if I should join AHDI and if I should take the RMT. I have read the information on the AHDI site which of course points to the pros of both. But I have also read posts from seasoned MTs who have not joined AHDI and some of them say that taking the RMT (or CMT for that matter) carries very little, if any, weight when locating a job. Goodbye, AHDI! Jan 13, 2011When I was a medical transcription student last winter at a local two-year college, most of us students joined AHDI at the encouragement of our instructors.

Why Is AHDI A Scam, You Ask? Aug 28, 2012It was a get-rich scheme from the very beginning. Brilliant, really. Except that when they championed the offshoring of our work, and the lowering of our wages, they made it so that most MTs with anything between the ears but empty space would question the value of the BOS, the validity of the CMT, and the very existence of this so-called "for-the-MTs" organization. AAMT/AHDI Mar 19, 2014What is even the PURPOSE of the AAMT/AHDI or whatever they call themselves now? AAMT/AHDI Sellouts? Mar 03, 2010I read a lot of negative stuff on this board about AAMT/AHDI - how they're screwing MTs here at home. Can someone explain? I feel this is a huge violation of my privacy. I didn't want this stupid membership in the first place, and for MQ to give out my information like that just doesn't seem right at all!

From The AHDI Website...they Should Tell MQ It's There In Print. Apr 28, 2010Speech Recognition Editing
Performing SRT editing successfully requires a somewhat more specialized skillset than that involved in traditional, manual transcription. There is a different eye/ear/brain coordination dynamic at work in SRT editing compared to transcribing, which often makes it more challenging to identify errors in an SRT-draft document. It is more common in SRT editing for the brain to be "tricked" into thinking that the eye has seen what the ear has heard, due to the lac ...
