I searched the archives and didn't find any recent information on this company. Anyone have any info on them?

this company posted that you will be an IC but you're REQUIRED to work weekends and holidays?!

weekends and holidays - drthumm

This is happening a lot. Quite a few of the jobs I have seen listed say it's IC status but require Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs shifts and some are even specifying hours. I guess they want control over when you work but don't want to pay the benefits. I know one I applied for and was offered had specific shifts you could choose from and even had an online timeclock to punch in and out, but was IC status.

How is that even legal?!?! - nm

It isnt legal. Look up the IRS rules. nm - PAMT

actually it is- they are stating they need an ic for those that can take work- - no name

if you are not willing to provide work for those days, there is someone that is willing.

they cant make you adhere to a certain schedule or fire you for not working one, but they can specify when someone can work and find someone to take that contract.
The above poster is correct. (sm) - QA

Use the painter analogy. If you were going to hire someone to paint your house, you could say, "I need you to show up when I'm here on the weekend" or whatever. You wouldn't have a right to tell him what kind of ladder to use, when to take his breaks or how long a break he could have, etc. You could then only hire painters who were willing to show up during that window of time that you're available.
It's crazy - MT

It's crazy. Even 1-2 years ago, you wouldn't see MTSOs having the audacity to post a position like that as an IC. It's blatantly obvious they want a regular schedule the same as a full-time employee, but don't want to pay benefits, etc. Unfortunately, it's like anything else in this industry now. Although the IRS has a clear definition of what an IC is, as MTs apply and accept these positions, I think this is going to become more prevalent.

I applied and this is the response I got - sm

I sent them my resume today. I stepped away from my computer for an hour or so as it's Sunday and didn't think anyone would respond until tomorrow. There was an email from them stating I could test with them but they expect my results to be back to them at 10:45 a.m. PST, which would have given me only 45 minutes to complete the test. I tried to open the test files but it said they were corrupted. Also, the person who sent me the email had a very foreign name, which could mean a few different things.

nevermind - drthumm

well, guess that answers that. I am just trying to find something full time so I don't have to try to work 3 jobs (anc coordinate them all) to make ends meet.

Yes, it could mean a few different things, one of which might be that you could get a virus from downloading the files. Be careful!

Tip for the future (sm) - AnaPhylaxis

After being stuck in a position where I was chained to the computer about 18 hours a day just hoping to make my line count, I was contacted by my 'dream' company (you know, that small mom and pop place we'd all to work for, where we're treated as human beings and given reasonable hours and pay), on a SUNDAY MORNING at 9:30 a.m. I had worked until 4 a.m. and was still asleep when the call came through and at first I wasn't going to answer it, assuming it was a telemarketer, until I looked at the caller ID on my television. I had the interview, tested and had the job by the end of the day. All on a Sunday.

Just a tip to everyone to never discount hearing from a company on a weekend, not even on a Sunday. Best decision I've made in the last 10 years was answering that Sunday morning phone call :-)

Good luck to everyone who applies for this one. I hope it works out for someone!

I think Wavescribe is the new name of Rapid Transcript which was notorious for not paying their MTs.

What I found... - sm

Looked at the Las Vegas BBB site. They have had 2 complaints against them in 2010. BBB says they've been in business since 2005, registered with the BBB since 2007. BUT their website says they started in 2000. Income is less than 500k a year. They have 1-4 employees. It's right down the street from my house.

this company has a D rating from BBB, and company search here is not flattering. They are not using their name in the mtjobs posting and are really out of CA, not Nevada. The BBB site says wavescribe is a name rapid transcript is also known as. 1 complaint in last few years. Had to get special help to open the test files and they were not that intelligible. Left lots of blanks and got offered job.

Anyone hear of Wavescribe?  I was accepted by this company but it seemed very confusing.  The audio for the test was terrible but they said I passed.  Then they said they needed the paperwork back immediately, 1099, contract signed.  Something does not feel right about this.  I asked questions but now they will not respond.  I did not feel comfortable not getting paid for 30 days.  Anyone else know anything about these people? ...
