A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
I saw that somebody listed Synernet as a good company. So I checked their web site. This is what I found -- they require full-time line counts of 1,600 per 8 hours. I did not read any further. I have never transcribed 1600 lines in 8 hours, even when I was young and faster. I am now lucky if I get 850 lines a day, being much older. I am not sure how the rest of you are with line counts, but I find this very unreasonable.
I used to work with a girl who produced twice as much work as everyone else. Of course in those days we used a different method of keeping score of your progress. With one typing maybe 30 or 45 minutes in one hour, she would do 1 hour to 1.5 hours. The last time I saw her she was only 45 and had arthritis so bad in her hands, that she could no longer work as transcriptionist. You guessed it -- she had worn out her whole body, especially her hands. She is on disability last time I saw her. Kind of sad to think that this would ruin your life later on, but it does happen.
So the point of all this is that no job is worth it if you end up an invalid or disabled for life. These companies forget that we are not machines or robots that you can force to work harder and longer hours and still keep going for another 24 hours. That in my opinion is the whole problem with these companies -- they are forgetting that as human beings, we can only work so long without rest or taking breaks.
