Need some sympathy here!!! - MDI/trans

Posted: Apr 24, 2010

Hello everyone:) Please, oh please tell me I am not becoming brain dead!!  I am 1 of the MTs that made the transition to Transcend a few months ago, and I am training on BeyondTXT right now.  I would like to think I am a reasonably intelligent person, who can pretty much figure out new things, but this time I feel like the village idiot.  I had the usual 4 hours of training over a 2-day period and then was sent out into the unknown:)  I am feeling a lot of pressure from my supervisor to do this correctly, and apparently she is feeling pressure from her regional manager.  I get the feedback from QA, and they are pretty nice as a general rule, but I have never, ever felt so tense and so helpless as I do right now.  This system is absolutely horrible, but we have to use it, so this is it!  Coming from MDI, which took be about an hour to learn Bayscribe, to this is insane.  If I ever wanted to jump ship, the time would be now!  Please someone tell me I am not the only one experiencing this!!  Thanks everyoneCry

Happened to me too. - Anon

I was not part of the MDI transition but I was put on the BeyondTXT platform after having been on a much easier platform and I spent about half a day trying to figure it out and just gave up. Call me a quitter but I knew I was never going to figure out that awful platform nor make any money. I moved on. I have worked on numerous platforms, Chartnet, Dictaphone, and eScription and this has to be the worst EVER. I feel your pain. Maybe someone out there can give you some hope. I just never received any and I would have starved working there on that platform.

Thank you for your reply - MDI/trans

I feel like you do, and I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I might not make much money at all with BeyondTXT. In about 4 weeks they are preparing to start voice recognition, which means the pressure will be even greater than it is now. My salary right now is horrible, and I have spent a few nights sitting here in tears...and I not one who gives up easily, but I totally agree with what you said, and thanks again!!

you're scaaaaring me!! - sm, former MDIer too

I'm dreading the day that you are living now, and I'm sure its coming. On the up side, probably not too many platforms as easy as Bayscribe. You'll be okay. The pressure you're feeling from above is no doubt making it worse. Hang in there. You DO have my utmost sympathy.

Thank you too!! - MDI/trans

What a sweet note, and thanks..makes me feel better because I have a long evening ahead of me:)

Actually, I did much better on BeyondTXT than on DEP. - CrankyBeach

I too was very nervous about changing platforms. The first day, of course, was pretty pathetic, the second a little better, and after that it was full speed ahead, to where I am actually quite a bit faster on this platform than the one we used to work on. And I find it a lot easier to use than DEP. Once you learn your way around, and you get some of the shortcut keys under your belt, you should do just fine.

I especially like the fact that we no longer have to remember which account wants its text to start on the same line as the heading, and which one wants the text to start on the line below. The platform does all that for us. I also like the fact that we don't have to number our own lists... especially when, after you've typed 8 diagnoses, they say "oh, make acute respiratory failure the first diagnosis" and now, we don't have to re-number the whole list, we just insert it at the top.

Just take a deep breath, and keep plugging away at it. It WILL get better. Really.

Thanks:) - MDI/trans

I agree with what you said about those things which do make the program much easier, and it is great not to number lists, and it is all uniform, which to me makes life so much easier! Thanks for the lift, I know I will catch on..have only been doing this now for 4 days, but they want me off QA quickly, and my supervisor is very nice, but told me she has patience now, but may not soon! Thanks again.

and also used Bayscribe in the past. I think I finally have most of it figured out. First day was horrific, second day a little less horrific, third day more horrific, and finally it sort of "came together" in my head. If you need some help, please email me. I know how difficult it is. :)

The biggies who buy out companys only want their - CLIENTS, not their MTS. So if - sm

you used to work for the company that was purchased, it's very likely they're doing this to get rid of you. They WANT all these people to quit. It's happening to me right now at another company that shall go nameless. (But who cares, they're all the same, anyway).

This is probably not an accurate assessment. - sm

Why would they deliberately change platforsm to get rid of MTs when they are constantly advertising on a daily basis?

Of course they want the clients, who wouldn't?

But, to say that Transcend has it in for certain MTs is just plain wrong. Something like this is really grasping at straws and as a professional you should probaby have proof behind this statement that Transcend has all of these scary things happening.

Look, if you all are great MTs, then learn it and deal with it. If you're not up to par to learn a new system, then move on... But to blame Transcend for your own inadequacies or your being unwilling to train on a new system is just ridiculous in my opinion.

Don't flatter yourselves. Transcend management is not spending every day worrying about it. If you can't cut it as an MT, they'll find someone who can.

They usually want to get rid of the former MTs of - the company they bought because - sm

a) They often made more money at the former company.

b) They were treated better by the former company, and will not like the changes coming down the pike with the no company. (And who could blame them for not liking changes that are for the worse for MTs?)

c) If they bought the purchased company's platform, it's almost a given that they will dump it in the near future.

d) Most of them prefer to hire cheaper newbies (or Indians) and take their changes with quality, than to do what it takes to retain seasoned, knowledgeable employees.

Sorry, Suit, but I've had this happen more than once to me, and it always happens in the same way. Mergers may be good for stockholders, CEOs and suits, but it's NEVER good for the employees.

Give yourself some time - part of a couple days is not enough

I was feeling the same as you when I was faced with BeyondTXT but it turned out fine. It really is not a bad platform. In a couple months I was up to 450-500 lph editing.

When I first started on BeyondTXT it was difficult for maybe a day or 2, and I actually ended up doing fine on it and liked it. It took a little bit of time to get used to the header formatting though. I believe you will do just fine once you get used to it. I should mention though my accounts were T-mode (typing platform), which is different than E/B modes. The only downside - I did not like the voice recogniton, but who really does? I did not do so well with that preduction wise so it affected my paycheck drastically. Just give yourself time and take a deep breath and you will be fine. Don't let it conquer you - you can conquer it!!!! Good luck.

I was hired by Transcend without telling me it was voice recognition, YEP. So I thought, after ALLLLL this, since I am here, will try it. I could see I could not making a living. It is a bad system, you use more keyboard strokes than when straight MTing (which of course not counted. Make a heading ALTN, make a subheading ALT NN, numbered list Shift + something? It took forever since the format was pretty much numbered lists or pulled to left side such as

There are a lot of steps just to do this. Ridiculous. Even though I was off 100% QA within the week, I calculated my money and it was 6.5 cents a line. I sent an email saying MY LAST DAY and said cannot make a living on that. This was about a year plus or so ago. AND, all those emails!!! I guess everybody sent ALL, them even when it does not concern you particularly. A WASTE. Have no regrets.

I've only been on it a short time, but I prefer it over Bayscribe. - mdi-now Transcender

My account in Bayscribe has the PE all split up much like you state here. At least with BeyondTxt I can save the headings and subheadings as a shortcut or an insert and don't have to tab over for all the subheadings anymore. That made it nearly impossible to save the whole PE for those horrendous dictators unless I saved it, entered it in the first section, then split it up in all the other sections after typing in the subheadings. I thought THAT was really tedious.

Plus, I think the hardest thing to do in VR is to use the mouse to jump around in a document. I think the keyboard shortcuts are great in VR and save a lot of time once you commit them to memory.

With Deep Sympathy And

I got out of MT about 9 months ago, but I continued to read this forum to keep in touch with any possible changes in the MT world that might indicate I should try to get back in (while I was job-hunting fruitlessly during that time).  Without being able to find a new job for so long, I was worried about whether I had made the right choice or not by declining the M*Modal job when they took over my former MTSO.   Now, this weekend, as I read the posts of terminations and chronic NJA, I ...
