I got cut to part time today - mad at offshore

For the last 6 weeks, my company has not had radiology work coming in to be able to get the required line count. We have had discussions on this, even trained for several accounts, etc... Yesterday I got an e-mail explaining that because I did not meet the line count for the pay period that I was cut off of all my benefits and now part time. The company boasts on the main page about how they have over double the amount of offshore MTs than stateside, this makes me mad. I am a single mom who really needs the benefits and so forth to live. I sent an e-mail explaining this, got a reply saying that I should spend less time with my child and work more, then I might could reach the line count. I need a breath of fresh air, new company and change. Looking hard.

Same thing happened to me. It is very hard to keep the line count up when they have too many people on an account. I hope you find something else very soon.

That seems to be the case, and it's that way on a couple of accounts that I am on. Very, very frustrating.

How can they cut your benefits and cut you to part time when it's the company's fault? How in the world can they expect you to maintain your line count when they are not giving you the work?!!?

And then they tell you that you should spend less time with your child and more time working? What do they want, for you to spend 18 out of 24 hours in front of your computer?

Wow, just wow. I am so sorry this happened to you. Would you be willing to share the name of this company to help warn other MTs about what they're like?

Please be sure to check with your unemployment office TODAY to see if you can get partial benefits. You were fired for not meeting your line count, but this was due to them not providing you with full-time work.

I live in Pennsylvania, and we have partial unemployment. Check with your state as soon as possible to start getting financial help until you can find the full-time position you need.

it wouldn't be safe or prudent to state online what exactly that is. So close your eyes, think back on past news headlines, and then imagine what could very likely happen to one of these greedy MTSO CEO pigs one day. Sure won't be soon enough for me.

to hear about your troubles. I completely understand. Same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago. We had been running out of work since last July and I was let go 2 weeks ago for not making my line count. I was IC status so I can't get unemployment either. It is definitely tough times out there and I am seriously considering another field. I just love to transcribe and hate to give this up.

I cannot believe they would say something like that to you. When I started at home transcription the companies bragged about how flexible this career was for mothers, it has changed so much. Anyway, look at your unemployment opportunities and see what you can do. I got let go two years and made the mistake of jumping back into the next available job, had I checked into it, I could have gone back to school and got most of it paid for, collected the unemployment and been on my path to a new career sooner - so check all your options. Now I am working full-time, going to school and paying for it out of my pocket but by dang it I am getting out of this field! I wish you the best of luck.

They actually told you that you should spend less time with your child and work more? I'd print that email off NOW and save it for future use. That's really a deeply personal insult, IMHO. I could ALMOST understand the comment if you had said childcare duties prevented you from meeting your line count if there was ample work available, but in your situation, the behavior of that company (and I suspect I know which one it is) leaves a really bad impression on me.

Absolutely appalling.

it's just getting out of hand, the companies jerking us around on work and then blame US for not working!!! Until we fight back it will continue. It's just SOOOOO wrong!!!

Thank you for all your kind words. I will take all of your advice to heart. I do my work, sit in front of this computer for what seems a lifetime and barely getting by. Now I have no idea how to get by. I will just keep looking for better. (and pray a lot). Thanks again for the kind words.

I worked for MQ full time and then went to part time last year, before finally quitting altogether because of health problems. Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I know they are a small company and do not over hire so I do not know how easily this could be done. I'm considering dropping to part-time. I checked out the MQ Central for the specs and it indicates 24 hours/0.03 PTO per 48 hr pay period/1.37 hours for a max of 5 days/40 hours yearly. My CCM said if I happened to work 39 hours in a week, I'd get more PTO accumulated during that time. She said there are PT folks who get just as much PTO as the FT do. I was talking to my CCM last week and she said the facilities just let them know they do not need them anymore, just like that. They go with their own VR. I don't trust anyone anymore so I secured a part-tiime job that I start in 2 weeks. I will not be getting much sleep, but I will have to suck it up.
