My last day of work was Friday after 41 years of medical transcription work with the same hospital. Voice Recognition software finally pushed us out the door. Central transcription was outsourced five years ago but there were a few of us who were willing to do Pathology in-house.
I'm not old enough (and can't afford) to retire. I don't know where/how I will find a job to pay close to my previous hourly salary with benefits. I have a mortgage to meet and, like most people, medical conditions I need insurance for.
I never thought at my age I could be so afraid for the future.
