I used it before when it had a different name. For the life of me I cannot remember what it was (Freelance something or other). Anyway, I did get a gig and wish I had kept on it. I was hired by a company to do video captioning. I did enjoy it but at the time it was only a side gig as I had my regular paying Admin Assist job at the time. I've just recently signed back up with UpWork but I havent taken the time to look around yet. I honestly did not know there would be scammers there. I think its worth looking around anyway. One thing can lead to another and you may find sometihng different you enjoy doing.
