Most of us were thrown into the category of IC because that's what we were told the position was. We didn't actually set up a business or a company. Nothing has changed for many of us other than going from employee status to IC status. EIN is meant for business items, if I'm an IC for one company, there's not much business going on. Even if I'm an IC for two companies, still not much going on other than the fact that I made some money with two different companies. Tax write offs, as an employee working at home, I can deduct my office space. I don't own a business. I work as an IC because that's what I've been labeled by my employers.
