I have never had a company offer it. I just don't think they thought about it. Once upon a time, at tax time, I did request it of my employer and they sent it right away with no questions. Kind of like, "Of course, no problem." I don't think we could use the EIN to access secret info from a company. I'm not sure. Anyway, worth asking an employer for it right at the beginning of the work relationship, like I said, when everyone's still smiling.
