Independent contracting - can absolutely be worth it

I've been doing IC for years and it has absolutely saved my bacon. First it supplemented my horrible full-time at MM, then it got me through about 2 years of looking for another FT job. I have a good FT job now and am getting caught up with back taxes. Bottom line, if you can find decent health care (look into shared) and you are willing to do IC taxes, it's not that hard at all. Hourly IC vs. staff employee earnings are not that different, plus IC is so much more freedom/autonomy (staff jobs these days are a huge adjustment for MTs, trust me). It's late, I'm tired; hope this helps. P.S. You should probably make at least $20/hr as an IC. Good luck!

Making IC work requires discipline and tax etc. planning, but once you have a system in place it's not bad at all.
