I never got pregnant and I hated Mother's Day for so many years. I too avoided baby showers. We chose to adopt and adopted 2 children. I still feel inadequate though, not having birthed them, but I do feel blessed that I had the ability to raise them. Mother's Day is hard for those who are trying to be moms, those who have lost children, and those whose moms have died. My mom said it best "why should there be a special day to honor moms. Moms should be honored every day." I minimize Mother's Day a lot and don't expect anything from hubby or children. There is still a hole in my heart for not having carried a baby in my body. So I know how you feel.
