This drove me crazy also. I have my pedal on top of a piece of carpet and the carpet is underneath a foot warmer.

I bought some non-slip tape in a roll. It's like sandpaper but has a sticky side (you sometimes see this on stairs). I put the tape on the top and bottom of the pedal. I also have a old towel thrown over the pedal so I don't tear up my socks while working.
