when I worked in house as an MT. She knew my work because she used it as the basis of her coding. I also use an old friend who owns an Allstate Insurance Agency, and she is also certified in financial planning. I am a client of the agency. An old friend who is a "professional" hostess at a restaurant I frequent and with whom I attend pool aerobics is another reference. If you list names of companies you have worked for with a supervisor's name, their address and phone number, aren't those professional references? Or are they looking for additional people who know you and can attest to your good character, work ethic, etc.? That's what I would consider a professional/personal reference.
